At the UTCC, outright speed is more important. It's a time attack.
Sure, having a fast car is key if you want to win a competition, but is that speed any good if you can’t maintain it lap after lap?
For Chris Nelms, consistency seems to be the name of the game, as he says the greatest strengths of the 2021 BMW M2 Competition he has entered into our 2023 Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports is “consistency lap after lap because of the cooling mods/brakes & suspension are dialed in.”
Those mods include a C&R lightweight oil cooler, an upgraded intercooler from Wagner Tuning and pretty much every aftermarket suspension component available from SPL Parts.
For good measure, the M2 is rated at 575 horsepower and 540 lb.-ft. of torque–though it is capable of 650 horsepower with a “full boogie tune.”
The main question, though, is whether or not those back-to-back consistent laps will be quicker than what the competition can lay down. Naturally, there’s only one place to find out, and it’s at the 2023 Ultimate Track Car Challenge, set for October 12-15 at NCM Motorsports Park.
What is the Ultimate Track Car Challenge? It’s our annual no-holds-barred track competition that simply seeks the fastest machines on four wheels. The rules are brief: Car and driver must pass a safety inspection. Period.
Pretty much everything is welcome: new, old, factory-bought and home-built. Wings are cool. So are box flares, giant intercoolers and sequential shifters.
