Jim Downing has yet another award to add to his shelf: the Spirit of Mazda Award. After spending more than 50 years as a both pro driver and an innovator, Mazda is honoring Jim Downing with their special recognition. Downing has been associated with the brand for decades and at nearly every level, from club racing up to Daytona and Sebring.

Jim Downing hasn’t only earned his reputation behind the wheel; he has a virtually endless list of accomplishments on his resume. For example, he helped spearhead the design and introduction of the HANS Device and was the safety system’s only test subject in the early years.

We have personally known Mr. Downing for many years. He’s truly a nice guy and ambassador for the sport.

I didn't know this award existed, but now that I know, Mr. Downing is the obvious racer to hand it to.
