I can't be the only one who likes the ND Cup hard top, can I?
Road racing isn’t cheap. There are tires, fuel, a car, and hotel rooms to buy–and that’s before you pay any entry fees. That last part won’t be a problem for entrants in a new series: Long Road Racing, in conjunction with the NASA Mid Atlantic Region, just announced the formation of the 2018 ND Cup presented by Long Road Racing. What’s its elevator pitch? Simple: Free racing. Racers will still be responsible for their fuel, tires, and the purchase or rental of a Global MX-5 cup car, but they won’t have to pay any entry fees. It’s free whether you’re racing one weekend or all three weekends of the ND Cup.
So, why is it free? We have a hunch: Long Road Racing is the exclusive builder of Global MX-5 cup cars, and a free place to race is certainly a great way to sell some race cars.
What about the rules? You’ll need a cup car, and you’ll need to currently hold or acquire a NASA Competition License and NASA Membership. LRR says that they’ll “work out the details” if you have a supercharger or a sequential gearbox, which is nice for those that decided not to leave their cars stock.
Trophies will be provided for the race series, and a special Championship Air Freshener trophy will also be awarded.
The 2018 ND Cup Schedule is as follows:
VIR Full Course – August 25-26, 2018 VIR Full Course – October 6-7, 2018 Summit Point Raceway (Main) – November 10-11, 2018
