Already a capable mid-engined sports car, this particular Porsche 914–better known as the “Por-zda”–packs a powerplant from an NA-chassis Mazda Miata.

As if that wasn’t enough, almost the entire chassis was re-engineered to reduce the weight. That, in conjunction with the custom fiberglass bodywork, means that the Por-zda weighs less than 1800 pounds with driver and a full tank of gas.

We got a closer look at the Por-zda–and interviewed its creator–in the August 2013 issue of Grassroots Motorsports, which you can read now by getting GRM+ today.

Besides having unlimited access to past and present digital editions of the magazine, GRM+ members also get exclusive deals, a highlighted avatar with "GRM+ Member" added to their forum posts, and fewer advertisements on the website
