This car makes me happy. Someone else should comment on this thread.
More than three years ago, maschinenbau unveiled a dream: a 2JZ-powered ’31 Model A pickup.
The quest began two days after returning home from the $2016 Challenge. The Challenge car, a Buick Roadmonster, was sold.
In its place: “I traded it straight up for a 1997 Lexus SC300. It has 294,000 miles on the chassis, was swapped for a 5-speed W58 about 10,000 miles ago, which included a new-ish motor with only 100,000 or so miles on it. The drivetrain is great. Lots of new replacement parts, ran great, only threw codes related to the swap.”
The body, however, sounded tired.
Then meet the second part of the recipe:
“Enter the Model A. I picked up this pickup with my pickup back for the sum of $1,250. I had the idea to put a 2JZ in a traditional hot rod / rat rod a few years back in college, when I was working on Georgia Tech's MG Midget with the turbo 2JZ. Just a dream… nevertheless I had been looking for a decent budget-friendly Henry Ford steel body for years. It finally came up last March, so I snagged it.”
Any progress since then? How about nearly 30 pages of build thread material. We don’t want to give it all away but looks like a frame was recently painted.
I've been following the build for far too short a time. The fabrication skills are... impressive indeed!
There is or was a modern model A engine.
Saw some a few years at a tour of old cars.
Easily identified by the full flow oil filter in the side of the block.
