Getting Hitched

Since our MINI is going to be transporting a lot of tires around the country, we needed a trailer hitch so we can drag a small utility trailer around. The folks at MINIDoMore.com have come up with a very slick and well-engineered trailer hitch for the new 2007 MINIs. Unlike their previous versions, the new hitch doesn’t require that you replace the factory bumper beam, making it legal for more autocross classes.

The hitch bolts on under the factory bumper beam and the small receiver is accessed by cutting a small square hole in the rear valence (a small black plug makes it just about invisible)

We also used MINIDoMore’s wiring harness for trailer lights, which, like the hitch itself, came with very well-written instructions.

It looks like a scary installation, but it took less than two hours from start to finish using simple hand tools.
