This quick Corvette is a three-time SCCA autocross champion

"Fast" Phil Currin has won his fair share of championships, but, through it all, one thing always remained the same: His love of Corvettes.

Fitting, then, that this 1968 Corvette was Phil’s top choice to win multiple SCCA national autocross championships.

It cleared, but it didn't have much room to spare.

I have walked courses with Phil. Sadly, the talent didn’t rub off.

Great to see this. I always like to pass some time with Phil when we're at an event. We might talk about cars, we might talk about flying, we might talk about his cat. It's all good.

I remember the first time I trophied in E Street at Daytona. I had the lead from my first run, and it looked like I had it in the bag until Phil's last run. I didn't know Phil yet, but the dress shirt with SCCA embroidered on it and the whipping he laid on me made it obvious that I was in over my head. Once I found out who he was I decided I was really proud of that second place finish.

Great guy.

I really enjoy stories like this.  I love the car too.

And that’s another cool thing about autocross: Even at a local event, you can run against some of the best in the sport. You can see how you compare and maybe learn a thing or two.

Phil isn't just a snappy dresser laugh and great storyteller, he is a great driver. How impressive was it for him to win the IMSA GTO championship in 1972? His trusty '63 "Vette was already ancient by race car standards, and IMSA was loaded with big-money teams.  Phil showed everyone how to make a Corvette handle, how to drive one, and how to take care of a car and get it to the finish.
