Not sure if a 292 will clear the stock hood in a F-body, but would give a different use for the overdone '69 Z28 style cowl hoods out there. A SBC 350 is the easy button. A 454 isn't much more difficult. The door hinges are probably shot. I think they would wear out in weeks when those cars were new. Those are some heavy doors. It's probably a Saginaw 3-speed. Don't know much about them, but I would be surprised if the mounting ears were different from a Muncie or a T-5. Would need to do a little homework but I suspect getting a T-5 to bolt up isn't going to require re-engineering the car. Just a bit of junkyard shopping.

the straight 6 truck guys pretty much bolt s10 4 cylinder t5's into their trucks, so it can't be that far off.

In reply to patgizz:

I think you want the 4.3 T5, 4 cylinder would have the metric bell pattern, unless the trans ear pattern on the 4 cyl T5 matches the saginaw ear pattern.

The 4.3 should work, the F-body T5 may work but has a different bellhousing with the funny angle.

The 292 is the same extroir demension as the 250. They have a seperate head and intake, some of the later 250's have an integrated intake manifold.

Saw a nicley built '69 in a magazine awhile back. 292 bored to 302 with '302' badges on the fenders! Webber side drafts, 5 speed, suspension work etc. Even had Z/28 stripes.

inliners and stovebolt have info. And of course clifford 6=8

292 has one motor mount in a different position than all the other sixes in that series, you'd have to make an adapter plate.

In reply to Rob_Mopar: I'm not actually looking for another project right now. I need to move before I do anything dumb like that.

I am a sucker for anything with an I6 and good exhaust noise, add to that GM parts cheapness, and it does look attractive

And I do enjoy enabling the forum

I like it. When was the last time you saw a stock, I6/MT Camaro? Like, never. If one were to buy such a car, and they wanted to resto-mod it, may I suggest the Vortec 4200 Atlas I6? I want to see someone stuff one in an F-Body and strap a large snail to it.

Everyone and their mom has a SBC Camaro. Do something different.

This is a 3rd Gen, but yeah...

I think 2nd gen F bodies are a great platform with lots of potential. If this one isn't rotten around the back window, trunk and rear frame rails then you're golden.

As noted, any manual late 2nd is rare-ish if not valuable. Years ago I had a '73 Camaro with a 307/3sp and it was a lot of fun just as a mostly stock beater.

Although it's been a few (several) decades since I did a 250/292 swap, I believe the block is taller, also. I think you can see the difference in the cover plates.

I put a 292 in my 69 Chevelle when I was 17.

Twisted Tastes is pretty much the norm here. And I approve... (For whatever THAT is worth..) Meanwhile, back at the thread...

Long live the I6! Turbo! Turbo! Turbo!

I'm a big 2nd gen fan. I've seen only one of these I6/3sp combo's before (and a very long time ago).

Although I would normally suggest SBC, LS swap, or big block olds or buick.........

how about a 3.8V6 and 5 speed swap with turbo's?
