We've been invited to the ChumpCar National Chumpionship! The team captain has a wedding to go to and can't make, so I've decided to try to put together a team on super short notice. Here's the stipulation, I need 5 drivers to confirm with me, at the rate of $600 for a seat, for approximately 4 hours of seat time, by friday. If you're interested, but need some time to come up with the money that's fine. I can cover the entry fees, but I'll need the money in a timely fashion. If I can't get 5 drivers to confirm by friday (registration cut-off day), then I won't be able to make it happen. I'm saving up to put a new roof on my house in September, and can't afford to get stuck holding the bag. The car will be set up with a new set of race rubber, all new wheel bearings all the way around, and a new rear brake set up. The car was running great at Nashville until we broke some parts that weren't available locally, and I'm going to do my best to make sure that doesn't happen again. The car will be well set-up and sorted, and we will have spares on hand. You are responsible for getting there, eating, and having you're own safety equipment, so if there's any question check the Chumpcar rules to make sure you have all the gear you need. We do have two Hans devices for team use, so if you've got anchors on your helmet we got you covered. Here's the details of the race:

The car is an 86 Escort with a turbocharged 2.0L Zetec Contour engine, and is pretty damn fast!
Let me know if you are interested!
Thanks,
Corey
god i wish. No eqpt and no extra money. I'm hoping things like this come up when I'm out of school, too. good luck!
I still need two drivers! This is a smokin' deal! You get more time than a track day and you don't have to tear up your own car! And the glory, think of the GLORY!!!!!
where's the build thread on this beast?
Our team is good at building stuff, but not very good at taking pictures. I wish we had photographic evidence of some of the bizzaro McGyver crap we've pulled off with this thing, but no dice.
Good luck with your driver search, Corey. I drove in the ChumpCar event at BeaveRun last weekend and it was probably the most fun-per-dollar I've ever spent.
E36 M3 man, hop a plane and head out to Iowa with us! Or hitch hike down to Evansville and you can ride out with me.

Yeah, now that I'm a seasoned veteran I guess people will be beating a path to my door with arrive-and-drive opportunities.
While it does sound like great fun, i'm already marginal on being able to afford the Challenge this year, and after missing the '10 event i need to get back to Gainesville.
Right on. We're thinking of bringing this turd down to compete in the crap can class. Look forward to seeing you there, as always.
Oh, geez...this is in IA? I could swing the entry, but not the equipment...dangit.
If you can come up with an SA2000 or higher helmet, the rest can be shared. They just don't allow helmet sharing. You might want to invest in nomex socks too, 'cause sharing dirty socks is gross.
i am fortunate to work with a couple of road racers who are "abmassadors of their sport". between them, i got every piece of driving gear i needed.
corey, i forwarded this thread link to a friend in MO. i hope you get a full team!
Assuming there is a party by the pool, you will have to shut it down in my absence. :( Wish I could swing it, dude. Forwarded to all hongs.
I'll forward this to a friend who's already been racing Chump Car. He's in Cincy and if he has the time might like to drive.
Stan
Thanks fellas! Spread the word! And Mike, I will absolutely shut down the pool party in your honor. Are you going to make it to the Challenge this year?
We still have two seats available!
you may want to specify what track, as it's a pretty big country.
Sorry, it's in the link with the race info.
Iowa Speedway, September 3rd & 4th.

You might want to chill with the sarcasm, as Corey is pretty much the nicest mother berkeleyer you could ever hope to meet.
Did you get a team together Corey?
Unfortunately I think I spotted this too late. Stupid power outage last week...
Actually the money is not due until the 1st (I thought it was due on the 15th), so it's not too late! I still need two more drivers. I'm currently trying cut a deal with one, so I may actually only need one. So yeah, it's not too late, and I definitely need one more driver, maybe two. Let me know if there are any details you need to know about!
11 more days to find two drivers!
One seat is filled, and I've got some interest on the other. I'm not going to spill any beans just yet, but if this works out it's going to be freakin' awesome.
So one of our regular team members had something come up and is unable to make, so that mean another seat just opened up! Same deal as before. $600 for 4 hours of seat time, plus access to a well stocked cooler and grilled meats. The $600 includes your driver's fee, but not any travel expenses, or any additional fees you may owe to Chumpcar (license fee, rookie school, etc.). Pickup from the airport can be arranged. I've already got the driver schedule written out, and I'd rather not have to change it to a five driver rotation.
