I can't imagine just how rusty a fiat from Ohio sitting in a field under a tarp would be. After burrito working on rust free pnw versions, I may have nightmares from even trying to fathom it.

What's the deal with the little blacked out areas below the headlights? Was that some kind of anti-glare deal? Did they all have that? It's either an aftermarket thing, or I've never seen a Fiat 850 with original paint before.

I've always thought these would be a great car to scoot around town in. A stoner hippy chick when I was in college used to drive one with the glassed over headlights.

In reply to Woody:

I think they have a plastic mesh where the black is at. Maybe to help drain the water that will collect there and help rust out something you cant get to easily. They do take a different approach to drive as they have no torque, but they cruise along beautifully.

yep, if the x frame is still under that car I'd be shocked.

I'm imagining the underside looks like this one looks on top:

Rust in shape of X1/9

I find it interesting that the chrome on the outside of the 850 looks better than the inside.

I had a 69, bought it in '71 (in NE Ohio) the floor was already gone to the point that the mounting points for the transverse leaf spring in the front suspension would slide from side to side when I cornered.

I am amazed that there is anything left of this car! It might be just a shell of paint that hasn't collapsed yet!
