New Philly OH vw parts hoarder and a SVX

I went to look at a stash of parts in Ohio by the owner Ohiobenz. He is looking to sell everything at once(divorce) I have a rough excel sheet of what he is packing and on top of that he has amg Mercedes and his sons svx with upgraded transmission ready to install. Mainly mk2 Jettas and 16vs I couldn't shake any prices from him but the Benz was appraised at 16,000. I was so overwhelmed I failed to get pictures but he is willing to talk to anyone with questions. Anyone with some extra space up for a group buy?

Search his name on vwvortex and you will see a few things. Prices weren't terrible two years ago.

He most certainly does not.

He means the car is an is an early model, and his trans crapped out, and he was completely unwilling to do a rebuild at a cost of $4500, so he bought an "upgraded" later model one (93-97) which came with an OEM oil filter kit. But, it's used too, and has 175K miles on it, and he has never seen it in a car. It's been sitting on the floor of his garage for 3 years, and has all the same issues they are known for.

All right, that is 100% complete speculation, but I would bet money on it.

So, buy it for what it is worth (about $1500 if it is PERFECT with a crapped out transmission), and do the 5 speed swap.

You can probably sell that "upgraded" 4EAT for almost enough to do the swap.

I actually believe in the 4EAT, but I would NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy a 4EAT out of the car and assume it had the slightest chance of working well.

The odds are about equal to your chance of survival if you push the "detonate" button while you are SITTING ON the H-bomb.

Bottom line, a rebuilt and well upgraded 4EAT in excellent condition is worth 2-3X what the car is worth. NO ONE would spend the money on one and NOT put it in the car.
