Seems the price for stalled Mazda projects where the motor is out is 2 grand. Last year at this time I bought a monster Miata like this. Then during the summer I bought an 06 MX-5 same price, same condition. Now we see a Speed 3 wanting someone to wrench on it. Seems like a really good deal for someone willing to spend a couple weekends working on it. Cash flow at this moment isn’t right or i’d Buy it.
The "needs fenders" bothers me a little.
The words say it needs fenders and spoiler but the pictures don't show the same need.
???
Edit. Bob and I are picking up the same clues at the same time
In reply to John Welsh :
I think that's to be expected after spending a week in a car together.
So this led me to the $200 manual trans elantra for sale that needs an engine. Found an engine for $250. Then the coilovers for $580 and Tiburon Hubs/rotors and sonata calipers for $400 and wheels/tires.... rabbit hole. you people suck.

Busy day in the office? HA!
That sounds like a nice $1,500 car!
Here's another MS3 that needs some love, up here in the Frozen Tundra of Rochester, NY.

Not mine, no affiliation...
A lot of these for sale around here with rusted rockers, a Cobb tuner, and a blown engine. Vape smell included. I wouldn’t pay more than a grand for one at this point.
There does seem to be a trend. There was one of these with machine shop receipts and all the parts for $2200-ish something nearby not long ago. If it wasn't black I may have bought it.
Do these have a tendency to blow up with normal treatment, or do they just attract the flatbillers who don't take care of them?

All of that plus Mazda rust.

They're cheap speed with a decent aftermarket.
The main issue is that they can suffer from what's called super-knock if you go full throttle at a low rpm in a high gear. It has a tendency to dump the rotating assembly into the oil pan if you're being a dumbass.
It's one of those issues with early DI cars like the MS3 that most flatbrimmers don't realize could happen.
