yeah I hear that. I never planned on painting the audi till I welded in those yellow flares. . . then I just couldn't stand looking at it all multi colored so I committed to paint. More power to ya for getting it on the road again.

If I'm ever out in CO, I can bring the wheels along for you to put on you 280z/econoline van lol. They would look nice against the white as well.

In other news, making room for another radiator, I ditched the a/c and smoothed the bottom of the radiator support to potentially throw a 280Z 3 row unit in there

Tank and pump in. Revving the crap out of it. Woohoo!

Just waiting on the radiator to come and bleed the brakes.

Thoughts about yesterday:

After running the car for about 10 minutes the only thing to come through the 2 fuel pumps I put in was a little speck of rust from the tank. The tank had been out of the car for a long time and looking like it had been refinished but then sat for a while after that. I poured a bottle of CLR in the tank and swished it around, some foamy specks came out and let it sit a few more days.

The other tank I put in a 240Z was more of a pain than this because on my buddy's car (70 240Z) his filler neck was ROCK HARD and that dictated how you could get everything aligned. So the day I brought this car home I started spraying the filler hose with PB blaster to soften it up and it went it nice and easy.

I ditched the 2 electric fuel pumps and went with one pusher at the tank and reused the hardlines and returns. I replaced all the rubber line though.

The clutch grabs right at the tip top of the pedal so hopefully I can just adjust it and it doesn't need a new one. I was able to drive it off the ramps and pull it in the garage using the parking brake to stop me since I STILL havent bled the brakes.

My choke cables are broken but this car really didn't need them. I fired it up, revved it a few times (it revved REALLY fast) and then it settled into a 900 rpm idle nicely. It really makes you wonder why somebody let this car sit for 24 years without getting to fixing it.

Totally agree! My 280 has been off the road since 1990, I have no idea why. People are weird!

Great work! I feel the 240s are far and away the best of their breed! Like almost every other ride, the more Zs were updated the heavier and more bloated they got.

Speaking of paint colors: I just noticed that under Reader Rides, Doglesby has a 1960 1600 MG that looks exactly (to me at lest judging by the pictures) like your paint color.

Nah, this one has more yellow/rust in it.

Ebay aluminum radiator is in and doesn't leak so far. I had to drill out some holes to mount it but it mostly fit.

Lastly, I have a huge stash of old school oil so I changed the oil with some 40 year old Quaker State and I'll do a UOA the next change.

The stash:

My 73 year old uncle stashes it away in his basement and then buys another house. I help him move and he gives it to me.

Thoughts about the first drive around the block yesterday: Oil pressure looked good, smoked a little (mostly fuel). Coolant temp stayed right in the middle of the gauge. Sounds fantastic, revs super fast, Needs a clutch pretty bad. I'll address that next and get some more miles on it.

I also sanded and spot painted the left side of the car to get rid of the rust. I'll make my way around the whole thing eventually.

Looks great! You're way ahead of me. Mine still needs a REALLY good cleaning, and some brakes (hoses and a master cylinder). Thankfully my clutch feel pretty good, other than the shifter needing some bushings really bad. I know yours is a 240 and I have a 280, but can you post a pic of your oil pressure sending unit/switch? My gauge doesn't seem to be working, but I know I have oil pressure since it's running so well. I'm thinking the switch is bad or its connected/wired incorrectly.

Yeah I can check mine when I get home. I may have a spare one that I can send you in my bag of spare crap that came with the car. Those wires that run off of them are tiny and get brittle pretty often. I'd check that and trace it the whole length.

In reply to crankwalk:

Thanks. I only have one wire connected to it at the moment, but there are 2 terminals on the switch. I don't see another wire anywhere that may have come off, but I'm assuming there should be something there. Your car is looking great, I hope I an get mine cleaned up soon!

cool! glad to see both of these S30`s running again. so, I don't wanna seem like that guy but i'll do it anyway, if your looking for front end parts I have a perfect 240 grill (was saving for my own idea but I suppose I could be convinced to sell it to a good home) along with a complete lower front valence for a 240. I also have a "perfect" smooth hood if you don't count the rust in the front lip.

anyway, I have been hoarding stuff since I had my parts car. . . stuff I no longer have much intention of using so if you guys need anything feel free to hit me up. I might have it.

oh and sethmeister: I had the same shifter issue you are experiencing, I ended up making some new brass bushings on my harbor freight mini lathe. . . . . I could whip out another pair if you really need some.

Oh no I appreciate you being "that guy"! This hood should be sufficient when completely sanded. The grille will work well enough but I have been dying to put my front bumper back on and my front valance is trash.

Let me know how much you would want for the valance and also if you have an rear quarter panel Z emblems.

Thanks!

I do have those actually. tell ya what, i'll give you the entire valance, sides, center and both lenses for 50+shipping and i'll toss the emblems in with it. . . not sure what the early ones go for but I paid over 100 for a good center 280 piece a few years back. this one I have is pretty darn straight ( a few dings on the center) but the rust could use a good blasting. the lenses are in very good shape for a 240, I even have the one broken piece ready to be glued back on. here's a pic to show you how serious I am about moving these parts. need MOAR space!!

I sold everything that would move at the time but there was just some stuff I couldn't bear take to the crusher.

cool will do. I have no use for the lenses so I will just throw em in. you can always use spares, the 240`s get hammered being so close to the ground.
