Check out Bowtie Overdrives. Might be easier and cheaper in the long run to buy a beefed up 4L60E

Ive got a 2006 GMC 2500 with the 6L V8 and the 4L80E. It tows 7000lbs+ a lot during the summer in some pretty hilly country. Truck has ~130,000 of your miles on it and no problems. A 4L60E does not like towing or hard launches, my buddy has a 1/2 ton with one and its on its 3rd tranny in about 170,000 miles, he tows about 6000lbs with his. For the cost of a 4L80E VS 4L60E....Id go 80 every time.

Another anecdote: I just sold my old 1996 C2500hd last year. It had a gooseneck and had ~250k+ miles on it, almost all of them towing something very heavy, and what was as far as I know the original transmission was still solid. I think $450 is a worthwhile upgrade if you're planning on using it for a long time.

Fobroader, dculberson I appreciate the input, looks like the testimonials speak for themselves.

I will post up some more info as the build progresses, I have a lead on a truck with a recently rebuilt motor asking $1200 obo with what is claimed to be a $3000 rebuild last year on the motor. I want to see receipts... more to come.
