I have the oem wheels from my wife's 2023 Forte LXS on my 2023 Forte GT for winter. It recognized the 4 new sensors pretty quick.

When I had my 2017 Elantra Sport, I got some new Tuscon 17" take-off wheels with sensors.  They were not recognized, and they are not recognized on the new Forte either.

On the sensors, I had my nephew take a look (he installed them, after all). He said that they were the correct sensors, but to get them to work, they needed to be cloned from the OE sensors in my stock wheels. The car can only take one sensor profile at a time, so cloning them should theoretically work. I just haven't gotten around to bringing all the wheels to his shop.

I wonder if it's related to different types of systems and compatibility?

Depending on year and model some kia/Hyundai vehicles report individual tire pressures while others have just a single warning light with no indication of the tire that triggered the light.

I took a quick look and the sensors for the 2017 Elantra sport are different than the 19-23 Forte. $63 Forte vs $163 Elantra. They both seem to be 433mhz however. Personally I just don't run the sensors in my extra wheels. You just get a  tire light no issues and all the safety/self driving stuff still works perfect. I can swap the oem wheels from my two 2023 Fortes and they are recognized by both vehicles with no cloning or anything.

That's one of the things I liked about my Forte, no sensors in the wheels meant I didn't have to perpetually look that light

I don't think Hyundai/Kia cared about the safety of a Canadian back then. They saved the tire pressure sensors for Americans smiley

No, your government doesn't trust your ability to check tire pressure cheeky

Yeah, government trust is an issue, that's also why you got spare tires and we just got a pump and can of fix-a-flat

No, they were forced to have DRL's. They just wanted you to see them crash.

Got a weird one for ya:

This morning, on the onramp to the highway, something odd happened. I was in 2nd gear and put my foot on the accelerator, and... nothing. It was like the pedal and the throttle body stopped talking. I popped it out of gear, put it back in, and it was fine. The rest of the commute was fine, too. No CEL, nothing else weird. Gonna definitely keep an eye on that.

And probably bad timing, but I ordered up another "mod":

A bunch of tuning companies offer this coupler that replaces the "muffler" in one of the intercooler pipes. Supposedly, it adds 5hp, better throttle response, and more turbo noises. We've talked about them earlier in this thread. They all sell them for $40-50. Some guy on a Forte GT FB group I'm in found an Amazon seller that was selling them for $8.99. They are sold out now, but I snagged the last one they had. Even if it does nothing, I'd rather have this in there than a muffler that can potentially fall apart and blast right into the turbo. Back in my Subaru days, the early US WRX EJ20 up-pipes had a similar deal, and I had seen that happen to people, so $8.99 sounds like cheap insurance to me!

New tires on the stock wheels are also getting mounted tomorrow. I'll have some updates and thoughts on those when I get them on the car.

That was the first thing I did. I noticed no difference, and if I recall, the "muffler" was just a tube with a smaller size tube inside with a hole on the side. I know I've mentioned it before, but if you're looking for an inexpensive way to make more power, slap a cone filter on the end of that rubber intake hose.

Last week, I got the new Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate tires mounted on my "3 season" stock wheels.

These things are pretty beefy, especially compared to the stock Kumho Majesty Solus tires that came with the car. Stickier, too.

I was surprised to see they are actually made in the USA! 'Merica!!!

I cannot wait to get these on the car. The Michelin X-Ice Snow tires on the car are magical in the cold/snow, but the 20mm less width and the general squishy nature of winter tires has left a lot to be desired on the commute. As soon as the weather stops being gross, they are going on.

I found that mine was really sensitive to tire diameter.

I ran some 235 40 18's for a short while and it was miserable. One of the things I really liked about the car was the favourable final drive, I think it was in the 4.6 range, and taking anything away from that didn't work. At all. I never did try any 215 40's to see if it was even better than stock before I totaled it.

Nice thread.

Just ordered a Gravity Gray 2023 6M.  ETA is 3/1.  My 2019 GLI is getting into the mid 50k's for mileage, and I wanted to strike while trade values are still reasonable.  New GLIs are unobtainium, and only come in a high trim level putting them into the mid 32's at list.  That pricepoint didn't give me warm, fuzzy feelings--though I won't argue that it's a VERY nice car.  I just didn't want to spend that much--and thankfully I don't have to.

The Forte is about $6500 less, and, more importantly, I could get one.  Having had a 2017 Elantra Sport before the GLI, I am familiar with the dynamics of the GT, and it will be more nicely equipped than either the Hyundai or the VW.  Pretty excited.

So did you get yours yet?

I think part of what's going on has to do with how the electric power steering is interpreting the tire size change. I've had plenty of cars over the years that have had different than stock tire sizes on them, but this is the first that I've noticed a really drastic change in how it "feels", and that could be because this is my 1st electric power steering car. Again, it's to be expected since they are winter tires, but I think the steering programming (especially in Sport Mode, where the car spends 99% of its time) is getting a little confused.

I didn't notice any difference in the steering, but it really affected it's quick revving nature, what I really liked about the car. The bigger tires just made the power feel so flat

Yeah.  Mentioned it in your "talk me out of it" thread; got it from Castle Kia in McHenry IL.  Had about a month now.  Have about 1400 mi on it already and did the first oil change.  I am happy with it, and like Tony, can't wait to get the summer tires (OE Michelin Pilot Sport 4) back on.  Love the H-K sound system and like having a moonroof again--I run it in the up/vented position often, even in winter.

According to the long range weather forecast, by the end of this week, it's going to get pretty warm here, so it was time to swap the new Goodyears on the car. First, on the Michelin X-Ice Snow winter tires: They are excellent. We didn't get a lot of snow this year, but we did get some icy conditions, and they performed very well. After mounting the Goodyears on the car, I had to run a few errands which involved highway driving, so I got to test them out.

Initial impressions are great! The squishy feeling at higher speeds is not a thing with these, and I've gotta say these have to be the stickiest all seasons I've had yet. They feel substantial and provide great road feel while somehow staying very quiet. Grip in the corners and when you get into boost is better than the Kuhmos by quite a bit as well. I'll provide a follow-up on these once I get some more miles on them.

Highs in the 50s next week in Wisconsin, but some lows in the low 30s as well.  Going to wait until the lows are in the mid 30s to 40s for the PS4s--pretty jacked that those were the OE tires!

I had IceX3s on the GLI--they are excellent. The Forte got some 225/50-17 (just about 1" bigger diameter than OE) Armstrong Ski-Trac HPs that were on the GFs Civic SI (I gave her the Tuscon wheels when I traded the Elantra Sport and got her the Armstrongs instead of the all-season Goodyears that came on the Si.  When the Forte came in in mid-February, I was shopping for used wheels and some tires--and she offered them back as she works from home 3 days a week and her all-seasons would be OK at this point of the winter).

For true studless tires, I'm in the camp that you want the most sipes on the ground, so I stick with the OE width--I first saw this thought presented here.

The Armstrongs are the best "cheap" winter tire I have tried (vs. Nexxen, Nitto, and Winterforce Firestones when they were cheap). We had two big dumpings with the Forte and it was as confident a driver as was the GLI in the slop and icy stuff.  Good choice if on a budget.

I have no choice. I bought a car on summer tires on the coldest day since January. Yesterdays high: 28. Today:33. At least it'll be back in the 50's this week

Yesterday, I was on a particularly long commute home (awful traffic) and I was cruising on the highway going about 70 and this happened again. Car hiccuped like it forgot I was inputting throttle, just like last time. Threw it in neutral and gave it some revs, and it was fine. So that's twice this has happened. Again, no CEL, so I can't accurately point to anything. I will continue to keep an eye on this. If it starts happening more frequently, it's off to the dealer with it. If I give it to them now, they will most definitely not be able to replicate the issue and send it back.

Also going to hook up my Bluetooth OBD2 reader and watch what it does through the Torque Pro app for a few commutes. Not sure if you can data log with that, but if it can, I'd like to see what the hell is going on.

In reply to Tony Sestito :

some of the early honda/acura TBW would do that exact thing on the early 2000's TL. Those used a cable through the firewall to the potentiometer that would then send the signal back through the firewall to the ECU and then send the signal to the throttle body. You could see it drop out right where the throttle spends the most time.

You can definitely log. ICheck in settings/preferences/logging to see if logging is enabled. You should be able to set it up to just monitor a few key parameters like relative throttle position, absolute throttle, spark and short term fuel trim. You can set logging control to automatic or manual as well. Since it is random automatic would be better. If you get log file that it happened on you should be able to look at it on your phone or share it to your email and download it into excel. I use the obdfusion app and it has almost identical layout and options. I am not sure how many log files you can store so every couple days you could delete the files that had no issues. Let me know if you any questions, might be able to help you out
