So I'm in the process of building a 1981 Celica gt. Im looking for a new drivetrain for the car as the 22r does not have the capability I want for this car. I'm getting ready to strip the car so I can make a "body kit" and properly paint the car. I need some help choosing the right swap. The cars use will primarily be a track car/toy.  Goal 300-400 whp

What about keeping it in the toyota family with a 1uz? They seem to hold up to that amount of power just fine and I can find a number of swap examples in your chassis with a quick google search

I had an '84 with a 1UZ in it. It rocked, and made all the right noises. A couple of friends of mine initially built the car, then I bought it and wrapped up a bunch of loose ends and made it work as a car. Eventually, it ended up back with the original builder and he has made it even better. I can't imagine a more appropriate swap for an old Toyota.

He's done a lot of improving since I took these photos years ago when I owned it.

A GM LS series will hit the power goals without too much trouble and is fairly small on the outside, so if you're not staying all Toyota, it's worth looking into. Maybe a cliche, but that's because it works.

The Toyota 1UZ makes sense if you want to stay all Toyota. Manual transmission options are rare and expensive if that's a factor. Dark horse option: the V12 from the Toyota Century.

Or make a joke about the current Supra by swapping in a BMW straight six with some boost.

One slight correction: My Celica had the factory trans with an adapter plate to fit the 1UZ.
