Oh man, that must have hurt. I smashed my thumb with a rubber mallet at full swing a few years ago, and that was enough to make me remember more than a few old swear words. Wishing you a good recovery.
Yikes! You OK? Take care of the rest of your digits!
I saw this earlier today before pulling the trans out of the Cougar by myself and was keenly aware of my hand placement.

Surgery to remove a bit more and stitch it up was a success. Bandages come off in two weeks.
Considering recent events, I've been brainstorming possible names for this project:
What else do you guys have?
I can almost feel that, I had my right thumb crushed, industrial accident. That hurt for a long time. They trimmed the bone down and created a new end for the thumb from what was left. I have about half the nail length on the thumb. Years later it is fine, but took a long time to fully heal.
Hope you can soon get back to building stuff soon.
Crusher for sure! Heal up and try to take it easy for a few weeks. They immobilized my thumb in a brace, but that just meant I could still work on the car as the brace protected the thumb. In your case, looks like you just need to let it heal up.

- Clipper
- Tippy
- Pinky
- TR(amp) ..... For TR4 amputator
- TipLS

That's one way to give your Triumph the finger!
Call the TR "The Bird".
Thanks for the suggestions guys. While I'm a huge fan of naming the car the TRamp, Indy-wife has absolutely vetoed it.
So looks like we've settled on the suggested name of " The Crusher"
So, I rubbed some Windex on it, fabricated a "glove" to protect the bandage, enlisted some help, and got back at it last night.
Drew these plates up at work, and had them cut out on the Water Jet.
Indy-Kid #4 had to loosen up the headers to be able to access the engine mounting bolts in the block.
Test fitting them, looks like we can make them work out out.
Engine will come out to do a little cutting and grinding on the frame in preparation for the CAD (cardboard aided design) work on the rest of the engine mounts
Got the stitches out on Tuesday, so I hit it again last night.
The area where the mounts need to go has a raised section from the seem welding of the frame. So I made a shim plate to make it level and flat.
Then ground it flatish and hit it with some weld thru primer.
Then I burned it in.
It's not a pretty weld, but I think it'll hold. Needs some grinding off of the goober areas.
Finger's tapped up on the end to help keep it closed, and they gave me a a guard to help protect against bumping it.
Here's the settings I used on the welder. Any suggestions for improvements?
Your machine should be on 3 for that and i'd start at 40 on wire speed and see what the bead tells you
You are one tough man. Looks like a heck of an injury.
Keep on with your bad self.
And yep. run hot. Do some test pieces off the car. Get comfortable. You weld with your whole body.
In reply to Indy-Guy (Forum Jock Strap) :
Needs moar heat. Also, bump the feed up just a bit. With MIG welding, heat and feed speed are closely linked.
I have a similar Hobart welder and would be running 3 for power and maybe 40-50 wire speed. Since the mount plate is thicker than the frame material, angle the gun to put more heat into the plate and less into the frame rail, but make sure it still penetrates the frame.
The pinky looks gnarly. I'd get a little pirate peg to go on there.
