Missed a few blocks, 11,440 pounds. And i have to unload them all by hand so the pallets can go back because when your buddy's company gives you the leftover blocks for free you don't stiff them on 8 $16 pallet fees.
i'm shooting to unload 1 pallet at a time over the next couple weeks so I don't die.
chimenys started getting taller today in anticipation of the new roof framing and a 4:12 pitch instead of the current mix of 1/2:12 to 4:12 depending on which room you're standing over. My buddy Twan is a mason so he's taking care of that and we'll do the foundation together.
Blocks: unloaded
sawmill done
i'm very glad i did the quick and dirty trailer rebuild, it's proving extremely handy to have a high capacity flatbed.
ninja edit: just finished 9 pages of permit drawings, going to see if i can get in to apply for zoning permit tomorrow. I'm way in the setbacks and rules so no worries there, just need to give the township their cash grab so i can give the county building department the piece of paper that says i am allowed to get real building permits.
Very much thinking about having a telehandler delivered for a month
I love this machine i wish they were cheap used
In reply to Patrick (Forum Supporter) :
Sounds like a Grassroots project build.

I guess we know where that thinking went.

So i'm not knowing what this gizmo is....please explain at your leisure...........late
It's called a telehandler. Basically a 4x4 offroad forklift that goes up and down as well as extending. 4 wheel steering, really compact, you sit next to the engine.

got the permit already? That was JimmyJohns fast
Nope, waiting for an appointment with zoning lady. Roof over old part is technically a repair, no permit necessary and especially not zoning.
Nice work with the garage. I’m excited to see the finishing touches on the wortburg. I love that build. Also excited to see the 210 and devin builds progress. You must be busier than a one legged man in an but kicking contest. By chance was there a build thread on the Datsun?

There is somewhere but the pics are mostly dead because photobucket. I'll see if i can dig it up
shaping up. Ended up 4:12 on the front side, 5:12 on the back because the header is lower, and i'll shoot for 2:12 on the porch roof off the front.
This new space above the exiting roof is "dead" space??? You're using 2x6'sfor your rafters?
Some of it will be used. Looking at some pretty decent sized storage for holiday stuff to get it out of the basement and a quiet loft area for the kids to be able to get away from each other. The part with the tall roof will be dead space with an access door for future mechanical maintenance or additions
2x6's with kneewalls halfway up for support.
looked at some prices today, osb is almost 50% what it was when I bought everything a couple months ago. I will need a handful more 2x6x24 and 2x4x8 so i'll call first thing before the prices go up any more.
What is your nail gun of choice may I ask? Is your dear wife feeding you those roof rafters?!?!?!!
Harbor freight nail gun that I picked up in an emergency when my bostitch gun blew the trigger seal. Negative on the other question.
Holy berk i need some water
sitting in what the kids are calling the book nook
Wow, stuff is happening!
That 6ft ladder standing there makes me wonder, "will there be second story or attic access?"
Yeah, gonna cut the old roof out in that area and lay some joists down and make half finished loft and half cold storage for stuff like the christmas tree and an access door to the rest. Township lady still has not called back. Getting annoyed
Your craftsmanship is excellent carry on...... way better than most elsewhere here on the forum wink
If there was a good place to add steps i could honestly toss the roof on and chop the old roof out from under new and add a 2nd flood. However, this is my forever home, so I'm trying to futureproof it and not add stairs for when i'm all old and don't do steps anymore. The big reasons for going out (expensive, foundation, zoning permit) instead of up (easy, had to build a new roof structure anyway, could get away with no permits) are to not make a space we won't be able to use when the kids are grown, and to add a 2nd toilet and get the laundry machines out of the basement. I know way too many people who have 2nd floors with bedrooms that they don't even go up into after their kids move out.
have to do collar ties and frame the gable end in.
In reply to Patrick (Forum Supporter) :
Jeez, I am younger than you and I don't do stairs anymore.

I think you might have a year on me, no? I turned 40 in july
In reply to Patrick (Forum Supporter) :
Huh, I thought you were 2-3 years older? I just had my 42.5 "half birthday".
