I probably would spring for a gallon of polyester primer, well under $100. High build, will just burry imperfections and is easy to sand.
Just my 2 cents. Can't wait to see this all finished up

2nd coat of color #1 is on. I tried one of those disposable hopper cups, but the filter didnt' seal right and I got a ton of clogging on one panel. So I'll need to wetsand before the final coat.
Also...soon...
Oops. Guess it needs more time to cure so I'll wait a few more days before the final tape job and the final color.
And speaking of color...
Hate to say it, but that looks like an adhesion problem, not a cure problem from my seat. Hopefully I'm wrong.
But im seriously digging it! Martini livery?

Rustoleum paint to Rustoleum primer, but it happens I guess. Or I pulled the tape up from the wrong angle. This was also a trouble spot I had to sand and respray a couple times due to clogs. Isn't learning fun.
STM317 you might be on to something

I think it might be the re-coat from the clog fix. I basically wiped the clog spots with a thinner-soaked rag right after they happened, which left a bad smudgy texture. Then after it dried, I wetsanded 1000. Then sprayed real heavy instead of two thin coat because I wanted to be done. I probably should have sanded like 400 or 600 and split into two coats.
I have no idea what I'm doing. I didn't spray more than a few swipes without adjusting the gun. Sometimes to "splattery", sometimes too thin, sometimes too heavy overlap, it's all over the place. But this one part looks pretty decent.

Was planning to clear coat over all of it. I'm getting conflicting info on doing anything between base and clear. The can says not to buff for like 30 days or something crazy.
Also, can these instructions possibly be right? I'm using the Harbor Freight "professional" HVLP gun 1.4mm and had it at like 40 psi, but the paint was so thick it barely wanted to flow out. I was having issues getting a full wet pattern, so this coat was pretty dusty in some spots and I sprayed too close to the panels to compensate. Also getting large "droplets" coming out of the gun but often witout a fully covered pattern. Will it flow better at lower PSI? None of this makes sense to me but at least no major defects so far.
Almost sounds like a thinning or mixing issue. And my gun from Harbor Freight is the $9 special and I generally spray at 50 psi at the hose and reduced down to whatever with the knobs on the gun
