i had to chop a chunk out of that heater box, mainly because i was an idiot and installed the engine in the car without the valvecovers already on.
i then patched the box with metal flashing and permatex grey, later i covered the whole mess with 3M rubberized undercoating and it is no longer noticeable.
just trim the wiper tray as you're reinstalling it. this will only take a second and is very straightforward.
if i had installed the engine with the valvecovers already on it would have been unnecessary. if you're dumb like me, or you want to be able to remove them in the future, you will need to notch a chunk out of the box. it's not a big deal to do.
Awesome. The tech just said, "That heater box should come out and then we'll put the engine in and put the heater box back in. I doubt we'll have to trim it." So we'll see. How much did you need to take out of the wiper tray? Also, I have watched your vid like 4 times already, where did you remove the hood bracing? Just there in the center or what?
just cut the center of the hood. then you have to defeat the glue that is also holding it together.
i'd leave that heater box in the car. looks like a pain to mess with.
just a couple little chunks out of the wiper tray where it will otherwise contact the fuel rail. wait to do that until the motor is in the car, so you know how much and where.
Awesome. I'll let you know when I get the engine here. Should be next week when we get started on it.
I need that flexplate!! The place that supposedly was sending it to me fell through. Does anyone have one sitting around?
i doubt it. i guess i can't say your car will be exactly like mine because i've got an '02. my car's torque converter was a smaller diameter so the bolt holes were closer together. the flexplate that came with my engine was the right total diameter, but the holes were too close to the outer edge. unfortunately, most of the cars with that same converter as my P71 came with romeo engines, and consequently have only six bolts to the crank. in '99 and '00 some of the mustang GT's randomly got windsor engines, and consequently the eight holes for the crank.

start making some calls
dunno. if it's eight bolt to the crank, and has the correct distance between converter holes... then YES!
Too late. Found one from MPS Auto Salvage. $75 plus shipping. Now I just need to order the Intake Adaptor Plates. Engine showed up yesterday afternoon.
OK. Flywheel will be here tomorrow or Thursday. Adaptors around the same time frame. This motor is out of a 2003 or 2004 F150. Should be forged crank and rods, right? What kind of pistons were used? I'm asking because I'm seriously debating putting a 125 wet shot on it.
not forged anything after '99 in a 5.4. the pistons are just plain old ring land breaking slugs. it does have p.i. heads though.
how about a dyno chart to make you feel better.
I feel better now. LOL
I do have a turbocharger from a 2011 F450 6.7L diesel sitting here though... If you don't know about these, there's 2 compressor blades in the compressor housing for quick spool and power and one turbine blade. It's called a Single Sequential Turbo.
