Was actually amazing to see Art work. I rolled up after the tack coat. Saw runs and said E36 M3 in my head. Art rolls up with a single sheet of sandpaper, goes wets it, sands the runs, and like 15 minutes later is done with the next coat. Runs are gone. It was like he was making a sandwich not painting a truck.

Same brand, different line of paint.this is matrix high teck line. I like their sealer and high build better than the normal matrix stuff so far!
Really, i think it was just a bad day all around, with too many uncontrollable variables against us.
Stampie: he does that kind of thing regularly. Just mind boggling what he does and gets away with. Like prepping for paint with windex and a scotchbrite pad...
that went a whole lot better
closest yall are gonna get to a selfie.
Its got a bit of peel. But i think I can live with it. Well see what i think when its back together. But definitely not bad for out of the gun on a breezy 50 degree day in the fall under the trees on gravel driveway!
I have questions.
How much did the paint cost and got a link to a website?
If going for non truck application could you wet sand the base coat to get the orange peel out then clear or is that something you have to do on the clear only?
Can I bring my Miata up for for a weekend and let yall do magic?
The volume that i bought in was WAY WAY more than you would need for a miata. If i remember correctly, clear (almost two gallons sprayable) was 140, reducer 30, base gallon 80, sealer 60.
We did wetsand the peel in the basecoat, but the clear brings its own as well. However, with as thick as we shot the clear, im not sure it would have been necessary
And maybe on the miata. However, probably not. Lot of effort goes into preparation for spraying....
"Let's see if i can live with it" = i'll be wetsanding and buffing next week

You're probably right....
Have you trimmed back down some or is it the convex truck doing that?
This truck is shaping up nicely. Also between this truck and your stepside your really making me want to buy a GMT400. I wish there where still some solid ones up here.

Both. I haven't trimmed down that much, but one pants size is a step in the right direction!
Gnx: i can look here. Matter of fact, guy here in town is fixing to sell a nice extended cab short bed for $3500. I can set you up with him.
Tou know what sucks? Crusty trim next to fresh paint.
Which means trim restoration.....
No pictures because it irritated me that much. Tomorrow I polish. And clean. And....
Anyone have a source for the extended cab glass hardware? I had to drill out two of the retainers for the hinges, and both latches are broken. Can't seem to find it on Google....
Havent caught up on the thread but saw your hardware post on FB. I'll check if my buddy still has his parts truck and I'll check the numbers from gm too tomorrow.
Thanks! That would be awesome.
This thing is coming along wonderfully. Gonna be a nice ass driveabeater

That's the goal! Red truck quality and similar usage
In reply to solfly :
You the man! All are either in stock or on their way to my local dealer!
I don't know if those quantities are accurate, I didn't even notice them until now.
Nope, didn't notice them either! Individual was how the local dealer sells them
Still waiting for the latch, but the other parts are here!
Maybe get the truck weather tight tomorrow.
that should do! Not to make it all git properly. After the windows, and bumpers, and....
You forgot to paint the hood
In reply to Patrick (Forum Supporter) :
Art has the rust free hood and gas filler door at his place. Should be done this week sometime. No sense in digging out filler to grind out rust pits when steve the scrap guy traded me a decent black hood.
Winter is here. This is going to make working outside on this suck slightly more.
Oh well.
Todays goal, assuming work and world work like normal, is to get the drivers door torn down AGAIN and try another time to get the outer handle installed and functioning. Also, weather tight on the windows.
