I have a Siemens unit and I would not recommend it. I believe most modern EVs have all of the intelligence they need so I do not like smart chargers. I also would take care to buy one with UL listing, since a lot of power is at stake here. Some of the popular brands didn't bother with UL testing. I see this as a red flag.
Let me know what you end up with!

We have the Juicebox 40 on a 50 amp circuit.
I like having the smart charger a lot more than I thought I would - it alerts me when power is out, when the charge has finished, and I can remotely set it for many different settings, from the time of day to charge to the charge rate allowed. I would recommend getting an EVSE that's on a pigtail rather than hardwired just to make it easier to take with you if needed.
Does Ford offer a recommended charger? If so, is it integrated into the vehicle systems better than a generic one?

Hilariously, I disagree with all of those things. I wanted a dumb hardwired unit. The car does all of those things you mentioned, and I didn't want it stolen nor did I want to deal with weathertightening a 50 amp outlet which I never move.
Either way, nice truck! We're waiting to see how much you love it irl.
I suspect this might be the first Lightning through the dealer, so the PDI might take a while as the techs 1) learn a new vehicle and 2) check it out because who isn't interested?

Gotta love Iowa's 1% license costs.
Congrats on the truck!
Yeah, those costs were pretty eye-watering on my used i8 that stickered out new at over $147k.
You only have to wait for the twelfth renewal before it drops to the nominal fee
I'd love to know the justification for the extra $8. Did they charge you for the full tank of electrons? ;)
You really come to realize how much a new vehicle costs when you see the tax bill. Ouch indeed.

My wife notarizes a lot of airplane sales. SC caps the sales tax on vehicles at $300 so the buyer and seller will fly in, do the sale and pay SC sales tax and fly out.
It's nice when car shopping to not have to shell out a pile of cash in sales tax.

Wait, really? For an expensive vehicle like a Lightning, a fly and drive is worth it!
