I bet that thing will be a blast. Plan on little LED's for headlights and turn signals? Keeps it road legal and doesnt add much weight?
That is exactly the plan. Some little "F1" style Ebay mirrors as well.

I want to drive that Spyder kart!
I drove it around the block and the weight loss feels significant! Acceleration is noticeably faster. I removed some intake piping and the suction sound is loud and wonderful. I'll need to adjust the coilovers down a bit as the car sits higher now. I'm not quite done with the build but excited to get it out on the road and autox course!
I know there are some nice compact sxs focused headlight/turn signal, tail light/reverse combos out there fairly cheap
Down in Naples, they have a swamp buggy racetrack that may be the only one of its kind. It's more like a shallow pond than the mud you would normally think of in a "swamp". My dad took me down there many years ago but my wife had never been and wanted to check it out. Turns out we showed up on a practice day, so the action was a little less intense than a race day, but still cool. They did mix in a few races of the Jeep class to liven it up.
each year they do a scholarship/pageant to choose the "swamp queen".
on the spyder kart, I welded up a little bracket to move the coolant overflow tank into the engine bay and make room to mount some little taillights in a symmetrical fashion.
and amazoned some universal LED lights with turn signals and reverse lights included.
taillights on and insurance has been procured. Some front lights have been ordered and will register the thing next week. Hoping to be snapping necks around town by the weekend.
Got a plate for the kart! Working on some final pieces - brackets for the small/light/cheap headlights and turn signals. Bolted up some street wheels and tires. I think a 3rd brake light might be the last thing before I feel it's street worthy. I want to get the a/c compressor off before I drive it down to the dump to get a final weight. I'm told that finished Exocets are around 1550 lbs, so I'd like to be somewhere near that.
needs more underglow plus SXS style led whips
Also painted an obscene color, day-glo pink perhaps?
edit: god my rallycross car is going to be hideous isnt it? I cant wait

I bet that things a blast
im going to try and pawn my fiberglass circle track body parts off on you again, front and rear bumpers and some right front fenders lol
I don't think it needs any fiberglass body panels, but SXS LED whips might be interesting :)

meatz are back on the spyder. I spun the coils down a bit further after taking off a bunch of weight. Autocross on Saturday. Taking the e36 to Track Night in America at Palm Beach tomorrow. Fun week!
Track night was pretty fun! The car ran great again. However, wasn't so great for these 2. Their resulting delays cut the number of sessions from 3 to 2 for the rest of us :(

I was there to race my subaru. There was a MR2 of each gen present for the Gambler HooptieX race!
Your MRSkart is turning out great!

Sweet! And thanks!
what were your impressions of the HooptieX event? If the pictures are any indication, they look to be more wild and fun than SCCA rallyx. Catching a little air would be a big "no-no". There's been chatter of HooptieX here in FL. I sure hope they pull it off.
It was really awesome! I believe they always try to have some jumps in the HooptieX and the track is much rougher in general than the average rallyx course.
Also, nobody seems to take it very seriously. Lap times are not announced and there was no awards ceremony. Everyone was just out there for a good time!
Unlike RallyX, I think a lifted car with oversized tires should have an advantage.

I'm liking everything about that!
First rip in the spyder kart was a great success!
Awesome. Love this thread and your real approach to fixing and enjoying your cars.
After reading your thread and watchin' Cleetus, I'm reading to escape the frozen north and head to Florida. Is there room for more or is Florida full yet?
Thanks for the kind words! Florida is pretty damn good for motorsports and for playing with and modifying cars in general. Cleetus' new track is literally 10 minutes down the road from me. I'm very excited to see what kind of events will be going on there.
Wow! 1st overall is awesome!!

Lol, thanks, I appreciate it! I have 2 siblings, both with 2 children, and I can tell you that not having children of my own frees up a lot of time and money to pursue my hobbies. I have nothing against children, they're just not for me. I have 4 nephews to get my kid fix and it's fun to hang with those lil dudes when I can.

The MR2 Spyder fb group changed their home photo to my kart! :)
and, if you missed the other thread, the weight is 1620 lbs! Pretty close to an Exocet!
My son and I recently bought the 3rd gen I asked you about. Is that FB group a good one to join?
