And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large...van. Towing a much smaller automobile.

Major thanks to AnthonyGS for hooking me up with an incredibly Challenge-friendly deal on his Laser project!
The general plan is Stampie & I - despite living ~400 miles apart - hope to have it ready for the Challenge this year. The short list of to-do items to start with include:
- Drain the oil & check for any signs of bearing material
- Replace the head gasket(included) - I need to determine if the ARP head studs can be reused, or if they're TTY
- Figure out why it's difficult to get into reverse
- Determine exactly what turbo is on it, I think it may be too large for autox
- Tune it
- All the other lists of things required to prep a car for the Challenge...
You may find yourself living in a shotgun shack.
Nice car. I admired it in the other thread. I look forward to you guys whomping it with the fix-it stick.
You beat me to this by hours! Congrats. I almost slipped back into the DSM world!

Sorry! Someday I want a Starquest though, so we'll see how this all plays out.
In reply to Pete Gossett :
That's a nice looking DSM you got there.

I was actually pondering if anyone might have a hairless cat o could borrow for the concours...
I discovered the guy who built the car is an autocrosser & it has 200tw Federal tires that are in nearly new condition but appear to be dated from 2017:

I'm pretty sure he bought out an entire store's inventory of vacuum line.
More pics later...
This is the turbo on the car now. How do I identify what it is? I'm hoping it's not too large for autox.

YESSSS! That thing has some serious hardware on it. Copper spray and a new headgasket should do the trick if it already has ARP studs.
That is a great deal. All those parts and manuals! Recoup city. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Thoes fsm are worth their weight in gold.

Tell me more about the copper spray please. That's a new one to me?

Awesome! Hopefully I can find some markings on it, but if not it'll have to come off with the head anyway.
I bet it's the typical t50 "50 trim" turbonetics turbo we used to use back in the day.
Damn son, that's quite a pile of awesome!

Permatex copper gasket spray I use this stuff on head gaskets and other rebuilds it helps fill minor imperfections in the gasket mating surfaces.
In reply to RacetruckRon :
Awesome, thanks Ron!!!
you dont need reverse for the challenge.
In reply to MrChaos :
I was about to post this. I bought the factory manuals and included them. The PO bought the tires and wheels from a guy that did autoX. I don't think he used them.
Mid year 2017 isn't horrendous for tires if they have been stored somewhat well. I just bought a set of 2017 re71's that still feel soft and aren't glazed over.
That being said, I recommend making a concerted effort to put those tires to use ASAP, and prove out my thoughts. Burn them up in anger and do more tests against a fresh set. You know, for science.
A whole bunch of potential under that hood. Gonna be a few competitive DSM's this year it's looking like, but based on the bones this one will be hard to beat.
