You literally CANNOT derail a thread on grm. Theres no rails.

But, anytime i can help another family,  i will. My family is only as good as the folks that helped us. Truly blessed to be able to pass on sone hard learned ideas. And its still working for us. Were a better family for this, even though it's been tough

Sweet. I da'ed mine with 80, masked wiped with lacquer and shot it. Sounds like you have the same plan!

Watch the fuzzies from regular paper towels. Blue shop ones or rags are better

Ill have to watch for the fuzzies. Thanks for the heads up!

Really hoping to get it in primer today. Even grabbed a new harbor freight paint gun and filter!

The purple HF gun is what I used. It really works pretty damn well for the price.

Take your time with the prep, and wear gloves

Umm...

I ran out of gloves. No more to be found.

I did, however,  get foam earplugs for all the threaded holes. That way i don't clog the threads!

Well E36 M3, lacquers going to dry your hands out oh, and don't touch the car....

Did you check auto parts stores? Last time I was in there they had glove still, but that was a week or more ago

Lacquer thinner will work fine for the primer stage. But what I learned the hard way when painting the Bugeye is that laquer thinner does not do a good job of removing silicone. And silicone causes fisheyes in the paint. And silicone is endemic to our planet, so chances there will be some on the car. Like I said, not so much an issue for primer.

Next time you are at the body shop store or home depot or wherever, get a version of on of these. I now have like 5 of them for different chemicals.

Your body looks pretty straight in the pictures you posted. Going to be interesting to see what the panel tells you when you run the blocks over the primer.

Could you get away with dish-washing gloves?  There may not be a run on those.

It seemed like a good idea. Dunno if it will end badly or not with the paint and primer gluing the ear plugs in.

And im proud of the munchkin for making her first post!

You will be able to pull them out. You can always cut a slot in a bolt to chase threads also.

Use dry guide coat! Way better than spray paint

In reply to Dusterbd13-michael :

That is called a sag. You fix it with sandpaper. No need to do anything with it if you are going to be filling/ block sanding. Get them out of your system before you shoot color!!

I only got a quart of epoxy primer. Theres a whole quart on the car. I dry shot half the roof trying to use every last drop.

And ive been at this whole project HARD for two weeks. While working full time and being dad and son.

I'm whooped. Outta ass. I ain't even got enough ass left to half ass anymore.

Wish I had known you only had a quart, woulda told you to get two more.

Looks good from  here and the one big sag is not really an issue since you can just block sand it out. Sags like that are ussually a lack of patience and wanting to get full coverage too soon. I get the feeling you are rushed and rushing and that never ends well when spraying cars.

I dont see where you are going to need a whole lotta filler on that car. Pick the best or the worst panel, scuff it with 80 grit so that you see the contours and then again focused on the low spots so they are keyed for filler.  Then do the filler....But do one panel at a time, jumping all over loses focus and dilutes the lessons. Getting one panel done right, no matter how long it takes, is going to give you the roadmap to getting the others done more efficiently.
