I had the wrong style distributer. Bought a super cheap one with a magnetic pickup and it fired right up.

At this point I don't have enough experience to go ether way. I would do the sniper kit now if I would buy again but fitech was the only thing on the market when I bought
punch list
New larger serpentine belt. Current one has the tensioner maxed out and it keeps wandering
Install oil pressure gauge
Top off rear end
get the key switched power working. Currently we are turning the car off with a fuse
go back and clean up the wiring once the correct MSD distributor arrives, sometime next century
finish the column installation and get the horn working
I'm looking for a good solution for keyed power on my Cougar. I'd like a terminal strip of constant hot, keyed hot, and ground somewhere in the interior where I could land everything. That would make upgrades easier for sure. Not sure how to do that though.
The distributer that was supposed to be on back order until late next month just showed up. So guess i get to rip it back apart again. sigh
got the new distributer set in. Still just have the mechanical advance working until we can get it broke in.
still having issues with the serpentine walking even with a bigger belt. Think we are going to have to machine the spacer on the acc drive. Not a huge deal but annoying.
got the timing set to 18 degrees
Got the key wired up to run the ignition, so now the car turns on and off.
have a path forward on the wandering belt issue and should have that addressed this afternoon
Its also noteworthy that we are getting very close to a first drive of this vehicle and i don't know how to drive stick . My family never owned one growing up and this will be the first one that I own. I drive stick weekly moving cars around the body shop but this will be the first at speed drive i will do in one.
If you're already moving cars around you're past the hard part of starting out. Looks like you'll have plenty of torque to make starting out easy (including wheelspin!) but don't be surprised if you stall a time or two coming to a stop...
