In reply to AMiataCalledSteve :

It looked nice at least! Mine has very very minimal rust but the paint is shot from sitting outside. The lack of rust is the important part though. The bottom side of the car is nearly mint.

I decided to set a hard deadline for the MR2 for myself. One of the better cars and coffees near me has their last date on the 16th of this month. I decided this last weekend that I'm going to do everything in my power to get the MR2 to that show. Here is the mostly complete list that I came up with to do. I'm sure I will find other things that need to be done but this was off the top of my head.

Gas tank : done

Fuel lines

Radiator : done

Coolant hoses

Coolant sensor : done

Map sensor

Intake air sensor

Wiring harness

Remount Distributor

Chip ECU

Front motor mount

Clutch slave

Shifter cables

Axles

Intake manifold ; done

Fuel injectors

Exhaust

Oil filter

Handbrake

Ac lines

The quick recap of this current project is a 4agze long block to replace the dead 4age. I am going to be running it off of a chipped Honda OBD1 ECU.

I've been making some good progress on the mr2 this week. Slowly knocking things off of the to-do list. Everything is still looking good to be able to start the car for the first time this week. Fingers crossed!

I also got a replica key this week and got on a preorder list for a replica of the oem roof rack.

I know it's been mentioned a few times already, but those MR2 wheels look awesome on the Miata.

First start on the honda ECU! I can't believe that it actually worked. Almost started on the first try even. All it needed was the timing retarded a bit to get it to start.

The MR2 is running much better now. I accidentally flipped the cylinder 2 and 3 spark plug wires initially. It does much better running on all 4. I'm up early today getting ready to take it to a cars and coffee. I'll post pictures from the meet tonight.

The MR2 made it to the car show! The Honda ECU setup runs well but needs a proper tune very badly. I can tell that it is extremely rich but I do not have a wideband for it yet.

We had a head scratcher of an intermittent no fire on 2 cylinders that first showed up when we tried to leave the car show. We were fortunately able to limp the car to my parents house nearby and spent a couple hours diagnosing it with my dad. We finally tracked the issue down to a water damaged connector in the trunk that would cause the cylinders 1 and 2 fuel injectors to lose power.

Officially on the preorder list for a replica of the oem roof rack! So excited for it. A guy in new Zealand has been working on reproducing the factory option aw11 roof rack for a while now and just opened a limited preorder group. The test runs look very high quality and are hard to tell the difference when side by side with an original set. Hoping to have it in hand by the end of the year!

Is there anyway to change the tags or title of the thread other than just starting a new one? It's no longer a Miata or a Motorcycle replacement thread. Though I did pick up a couple project motorcycles recently

Man, I suck at updating this. I've since sold the fiat and my "forever car" EF civic. I've bought 4 more MR2's, 1 aw11 to part out, 1 aw11 to fix and resell, 1 MR2 spyder that I ended up flipping, and 1 MR2 spyder that is a long term keeper and now has a k20 in it. The red AW11 was running very shortly after I posted the last update on this thread. I had the 4agze running on a honda p28 ecu. We had it to a car show and took it out a number of times until a bad wiring connector caused the car to start running on 2 cylinders. It surprisingly had nothing to do with my ecu swap though!

Winter of 2022/2023 we started to prep the car for being repainted. I was distracted with my new mr2 spyder, so my wife was taking the lead on panel prep work. This aw11 is primarily her car after all! April 2023 though, we got the devistating news that her childhood bestfriend had passed away unexpectedly.  That killed all motivation and the car sat untouched for the rest of the year. This winter I made it my priority to get the paint job done and have the car ready for her to drive again. I have never been good at visual work, so this is very daunting for me. I am happy to say that it is going well so far and I have color down on the majority of the main panels. It is still a garage/driveway paintjob though and I will have to sand out the dirt/blemishes and touch up the paint. I am using single stage though so adding more coats of paint will be fine. Fingers crossed that I can get it done in time for our anniversary next month!

Slowly making progress on the aw11 paint job. I'm happy with how it's turning out. My wife and I also took a ~400 mile road trip around Wisconsin for our anniversary last weekend. Enjoyed some nice roads on the western side of the state near the Mississippi. Next year we are planning on taking both mr2's to the tail of the dragon for a big MR2 meetup on our anniversary weekend.
