I was greatly disappointed in the ability of the Lexus but I think it just needs some fine tuning. If anyone knows or will help find out what solution can be had at a reasonable cost for a LSD that would be excellent. Going through my head on the way home was that I really did enjoy this platform. I'm always looking for a way to get as close to the top in a car that is readily available for Challenge money with the simplest modifications. My current thoughts are to use this car as a test bed at this point. Then build a full interior version of this car and actually be able to drive it to the event unless I can't find a viable(easily swapable) LSD, I want the car to be easy to replicate. If a LSD is not easy to swap in place I will use this car and have the differential welded and trailer it down again. In the spring I will probably buy some drag radials and find someone who actually knows a thing or two about nitrous to help me out and see how far these motors can be pushed.
I'm going to try to bring the Q45 next year also... I couldn't really figure a way to make money on the car so I might as well have some fun. Just think Georgia Tech style windshield.
Really the car that I kept finding myself walking back to many times at the Challenge. The aggressiveness was perfect and it's everything I love about adding lightness. I could see driving it down if you had a stock drivers seat and just swapped once you got to the hotel. Not like you don't have plenty of room to store stuff. I really hoped that you'd taken me up on my offer to buy it.
LS400 I'm going to go check this out tomorrow.
It is possible that with the wheelbase of the LS400, you might be able to get away with a welded diff. It would totally work in the drags (of course) but you need to have it welded and then run at a local autox a few times to see how well it does with direction change. If you are running the juice on the autox you might be able to slide all the corners!!
What was your final weight? Did you ever get the car on some scales?
Maybe I should try and talk this one down to challenge money. It already has a "500hp rebuilt racing motor!"

No final weight.
Dyno sheet or get out.
For those not there. What was the drag time, where did you finish in the autocross and what were the main issues other than one wheel peel?

15.96 at 94 mph. Ran a 46.09 autocross time. Wheel spin, rear was probably too light, front wasn't stiff enough to compensate, probably not enough travel in the rear suspension.
Raise the rear, stiffen the front, remove rear anti roll bar? As other have said a Lincoln locker if no junk yard solution exists. Then, and I hate to say it, add weight to the trunk. Challenge points for a (fake honestly) dead hooker, literally filled with lead
Rear sway was disconnected. At work I pulled it up on a weird angle on a slop and it lifted the wheel enough to spin.
Thats a solid autocross number for a big car. With some work, you might have a contender for next year.
If you can get through the general car forum pissing match, these guys seem to think that an lsd (internal parts) meant to work in a supra (MKIV) should swap into the LS400 unit. You have to maintain the stock housing but the parts are the same.

MKIV Supra units are quite expansive. Currently looking to see if they used the same size differential in any of the trucks.

good lsd > welded/locker > cheap lsd > open > phantom grip
but thats just my opinion
The cressida uses the MK3 supra Diff which I "think" means that you are boned there.
How about a Tomei LSD? They are only 977 on ebay.
If I get another $800 car that will leave me room for nitrous and wide wheels.

Please drive the stripper Lexus to the current LS400 owner's doorstep. Bring a friend to film.

I prefer Cash and a trailer, I'm a one man show when it comes to buying junky old cars.
Bad news 02+ Q45's don't have LSD.
Other bad news after agreeing to buy that LS400 for $600 he couldn't find the title so I wasted 6 hours of my life on that one. It may help me buy it for even cheaper. I have seen fountains that have less flow than that oil pan did.

I say try welding the diff. Its basically free... Or buy a SC300 Diff with a better gear ratio and weld that. Then you don't mess up your stock one if it sucks.

I have been doing some reading and it seems that any lsd for a 8" toyota axle (v6 truck and 4runner) with the same pinion count 'should' work. Lots of $300 there.

Find one and send me the link, I'll get it and test the fit.

My research suggests that this 'should' work. The only thing I have seen the suggestions otherwise is that the ring mounting bolts might be spaced differently on the cars vs the trucks. Then this would need to have the correct spacing machined into it. Also, looking for cheaper options still.
