Pull rod mechanism mocked up for the front

Missed this update before, but I'm loving the sheer fabrication porn.

Any concerns about overheating the shock? That's a big source of heat right beside it, and it'll probably have some work to do keeping this thing upright.

In a word, yes.  Honestly heat management through the entire vehicle is a concern.  The idea has to be to heat shield the shock bodies and then heat coat the exhaust.  The radiator outlet will be ducted up through the hood with separate openings to try and direct airflow through the center spine of the car to try and direct heat from the exhaust through that spine section and out the rear center.  The trans cooler is in the rear and the hope there is to take the high pressure air from the rear wheel wells and direct it through the cooler then joining that flow coming down the spine and into the lower pressure area behind the car.

I'll bet it is a concern! What's your preferred exhaust heat coating? I could do better on my own car.

OK, asked the guy who did the exhaust about heat coating. He also used to build and race rock bouncers so drew experience there. His answer was he had nitro plating on his rock bouncers back in the day and liked it but it's hard to find someone to do that now.  The best thing he's heard about that is readily available is called Zybar.

My personal preference is to double stuff up, whether it be Cerakote or Zybar, follow that with some of the lava wrap. End of the day though all those things are trying to slow down heat transfer from the pipe. So the engine itself is still creating heat and if you don't have airflow through the engine bay it's still going to end up with massive under good temperatures.

In reply to NashGTI :

Angry had something with the Corvair that might help here.  Duct around the exhaust and then additional fans for cooling

What the engineer in me would like to see is an outflow fan or fans at the back in the vehicle in the center tunnel to draw cooling air through it around the transmission, driveshaft, rear end, and exhaust. The designer side though wants the diff and center mounted coil overs to be visible through that same opening.  In the end we will likely modify the front bumper and chin spoiler to try and scoop air into that center area to move the heat away from the important parts.

We tried Zybar on a turbine outlet casting on a turbo Miata. It unfortunately did not perform in our application. I think the problem is what you said, it might have slowed down the transfer but it ultimately didn't decrease it. We ended up with blankets and some heat shields. Airflow through our problem area is not good.

Best thing I've done for heat protection is DEI Floor and Tunnel applied to the inside of my transmission tunnel. We did build a temporary heat shield on that turbo Miata made out of the stuff and it worked very well and looked incredibly janky :)
