So in true GRM fashion I'm posting before car is purchased... or even seen yet. Since the truck sold and the Rio is really good at being a car that doesn't suck I've been thinking about something a bit more dedicated to GridLife Sundae Cup life. Couldn't be a Fit because thats not how I roll. Needed to be Korean and it needed to be Iight. Accents are he obvious answer but since 2005 they've been getting heavier and went beam rear axles. So tha meant first or second gen. First gen are A.) hard to find and 2.) 4x114 bolt pattern. All my wheels are 4x100 so thats a no. So that left me with the second gen. 2000-2002-ish were the old SOHC 90hp alpha, which while a durable engine would suck on track even at 2200lbs. So that leaves the 2003-2005 GT 3door. 106hp, 2250lbs.
One just like that. Near my friends place. for a very reasonable price. He's headed there today to check it out and if it's good, he's already on his way north Thursday with an empty trailer. Sometimes things just work out.
Suspension has been found. header, intake as well. Wheels/tires I already have. The biggest issue I'm going to have are he brakes. Fronts are 9.5" rotors and rear drums. there are options if I can find a first gen tiburon front knuckles I can use the elantra/tib knuckle and bearing, the accent hub, 2003 Tiburon caliper and looks like the 11" Rio SX rotor. But if I can't find the knucklers I'm screwed.
Awesome!
Check Car-Part for the spindles. It looks like there is a difference for the abs vs non-abs, but from what I saw, looks like several yards in Indiana may have them for $50 a side, regardless of ABS setup. I just plugged in a 1999 Tiburon
everything, bob. everything is wrong with you. but we still like you.
Also trying to find caliper specs because it looks like the 06-11 caliper and rotor might be a bolt on. Bumps from 9.49" to 10.1"

I want to argue with you both but not because you're wrong.
Buy a spare transmission or two. I had a 2005 Accent GT I bought new. It went through 2 transmissions in 35k miles. Per the regional tech, The tolerances on the Layshaft where not quite right and Hyundai would assemble the transmissions based on assuming manufacturing tolerances where okay. He said on quite a few they where just to big and the bearings would fail prematurely. If you caught it early enough you could just replace the bearings and actually do a case specific shim stack to get it right. But mine grenaded first. Also 2nd gear synchros aren't up to snuff and you have to take your time a little on the 1-2 shift. Shouldn't be an issue for you but in Autox it was a little annoying.
It was hilariously fun to drive and I ran Miata Daisy's on mine. I thought one would be fun for Sundae Cup. Glad to see you are trying this concept.
Hopefully the plastics are done leaking oil by now. Also the seats suck so put some race seats in it.

So, I thought Sundae Cup was limited to the stock HP because of the stock HP:Weight ratio that you need to meet. Did I assume that, or is there wiggle room?
In reply to nocones :
Wife had a 2000 we sold with 250k miles. She nailed a 12" curb with the 13" tires and shoved the axle into the diff. Hard. 20k miles later the diff pin walked out and cut the case. 140k miles at the time. We drove it another 110k hard miles, sold it and the guy we sold it to drove it another 2 year.
And yes, 2nd gear synchros were weak in ALL hyundai 5-spds until 2007.
In reply to Mr_Asa :
It's whp:actual weight. So yes, there is wiggle room for most cars. NOT for my Rio. It's already upper end of the limit. IF this car weighs 2500 with me in the seat, we can make 100whp
This is awesome. Also, cool to see the parts bin engineering involved in upgrades.
I'm here for some spicy Korean hatch racing, hold the throttle, pls!
That one didn't pan out. Car would have been a fine racecar, but buy here pay here lot doing BHPH things on people with cash and no need for the car. Back to the ads!
Bummer.
This thread makes me wonder what happened to 2girlsracing and their hill climbing k-hatch, too.

Always wondered what happens with one of those where you sign up for their contract, then just pay it off.
Assume that most of them have a penalty for early payoff?
The business model is to sell the same car at least four times
2004 Accent GS Shelbyville, IL $750
This looks rough but I don't see Obvious horrendous Rust and it's CHEAP.
I'm about 45 minutes away from this. Probably couldn't go look until Thursday. Maybe ask for pictures of the other side of the car first though...
There could be things wrong with you....but Sundae Cup is also a cult...
It's cool to see not Fits getting higher entry counts
In reply to nocones :
A little body damage is fine, that's way more than a little.
In reply to bobzilla :
Hmm that's wierd, I tried on 2 devices and the pictures showing the rest of the car where not there. Yes that one is pretty "pre bent". I will keep my eyes out for a not trashed one. What is your "budget".
In reply to nocones :
I'm rying to build the car for $4k all in. Wheels and tires not in that price because I already own them. Suspension($1k), header/intake/exhaust($450) and maintenance items like timing belt, plugs, coilpack and something for the brakes. Or Just G-Loc R16's and call it a day lol
I just did a quick search and see no Accent GT's within 500 miles of Tampa. Lot's of GL's, including your original green one. Are you just looking for a 3 door GL with a swizzle stick?
Here's a real dreamer... 2003 Base model asking $6k east of Pittsburgh. Asking so much because only 16k miles but will never get it because No Radio and No AC. Also says its from Canada so maybe kilometer speedo??? The ad is two weeks old.
In reply to hobiercr :
GL, GT doesn't matter. Gt did gm have a 15mm rear bar and the gl a 13mm but they'd both get swapped out for a 19 anyway.
also entertaining a 06-11 3door accent or a 2006-11 Rio sedan or hatch
2009 hatch with low miles 67k but needs clutch and needs towed. Asking $3k. Offer $1,800 or less. The towing requirement makes it a $1k car. The offer of $1,800 would be the highest offer they have seen. Near Columbus, OH straight out I-70
