I'm probably 6 months out from needing that rear subframe.
How cheap can you slam a turbo'd V8 in it and dominate the Challenge?
You know, after we picked up a free one, I started realizing that these are a dime a dozen.
$800 for a non runner auto with title is a pretty good deal. But if you start looking you will see there are ten just like it for sale right now between mi, oh, in, il, and wi.
There are LS swap kits and kswap kits available off the shelf for these. Supposedly an nc front subframe is a bolt in, and therefore a Mazda/duratec swap is theoretically.... Something....

If you find a good/reasonably priced source for NC front subframes please lemme know, they seem to be so much harder to find than the RX8s are. But you're right, complete cars for sub $1500 aren't too rare.

Lol if I find 2 you can have the second! 
You'd also need the nc trans, as the rotary uses it's own bolt pattern.
This one comes with 6.0l v8 and trans already!

I had no clue they could be found for that little. May have ya look into one, one day.
I drove an ls2 swapped RX8 and it was a fricking riot. Love it. Just enough car and air bags to not worry about it as a daily.
It would take Nelson Level fab and penny pinching skills to make one of these run/drive enough to compete in the challenge.

Are you buying just the body, or all of it for $1600? I might could get the engine bolted in for less than $400, but getting the computers happy? I know I cant.

Shame it's sold. I think just the body was $800? You'd a been set!
I have a legit 0 budget BMW K1100 bike engine/trans, but nothing to put it in, or a old 390FE, so not really good choices!
Could prolly find a cheap LS, but can't afford the computer stuff... budget or life!
