I love this truck. I hate seeing it sit as much as it now does. I've owned Elmore since December of 2017. Purchased in Charlotte, NC and driven back to Cleveland. Since then it has seen only spring-fall use for truck stuff and towing my racecar to the track. It has been unbelievably reliable and trustworthy, never having left me stranded. I wouldn't and don't hesitate to drive it anywhere. A bit about the truck:
- 429 out of a '71 Thunderbird with an RV cam. The P/O built the engine in the early 90's and stated it to be a 466 now. It has a couple oil leaks. New valve cover gaskets last spring
- C6 out of the same Thunderbird with a cooler. Every time I fix one leak, there's another but it shifts fine. I think a new, non-stamped pan would be a good move.
- Electronic ignition - new module in 2019
- Dana 70 with 3.55 gears
- Drum brakes all around
- Power steering with cooler
- The heater...works... Fan makes noise
- All of the bed boxes lock with the same key
- The frame has crust on it but is in extremely good shape. I think it lived it's whole life in NC before coming up here.
- There is some body rust - fenders, doors, bottom of the cab corners, small spots on the utility bed but it's overall very solid. No holes in the floor.
- 6 new tires in the last 2 years
- Various new brake, fuel and vacuum hoses in my ownership.
- New fan clutch summer 2021
- "Mechless" radio with two door speakers
- New battery 2021
- Badly cracked windshield. I haven't replaced it yet because that would mean fixing a bit of rust in the bottom of the channel/dashboard.
- This truck used to have a gigantic homemade cap on the back of it with a pass through using the rear window opening. The cap is obviously gone now and the rear window is polycarbonate, riveted in place.
Both windows roll up and down, sometimes takes a bit of work and the passenger side crank resides in the glove box until you need it. Vent windows work. Door locks work. It rides bumpy unless you've got it loaded down and it's noisy but it's about as good an old and capable work horse you'll find. The only reason I'm considering selling it is that it doesn't fit two car seats and two adults and it just doesn't get the attention and use it deserves anymore. For owning it so long, I have stupidly few pictures of it. It's in winter storage at the moment not at my house but I'm happy to get more/specific pictures for anyone truly interested. Likewise, I can arrange to meet interested buyers at the storage facility. I'd be interested in trading for a 50's/60's Cadillac or Lincoln, E46 M3, E36 M3/4/5 or an 80's or older 911 (a guy can dream).
There are a smattering of pictures in the Small Axe Racing thread. A few more below.
Best interior shot I have with the non-Grant steering wheel. Also shows the rear window.
I have just about no glamour shots of it because, well, it's not glamorous but man is it a great truck. I don't think I'm willing to budge at all on price unless someone presents a clear argument that I'm totally out of line.
