What did you use to lift it 3" besides tires? Looks completely ready to go off-road to me ;)
Why wouldn't you drive it off road? The only issue seems to be rubbing tires.
Why do I hate this and want it at the same time?

Springs and FM upper perch spacers.
I would not take it off-road as the springs are near factory rate. I would increase the rate at least double (maybe triple) at a minimum

No tire rub at all in daily driving. Can't say for Dukes of Hazzard stunts :-)
In reply to RandyS:
I would agree that heavier spring rates would be a benefit, but Miatas get rally'd every weekend with completely stock suspension. It wouldn't be a concern for me.
It is certainly a GRM type of car. Waaaay to redneck for me, though.

I have no idea. I do not think it would be optimal anyway as those 8 ply truck tires are extremely heavy and the 25.5" height affects the gear ratio a lot.
Definitely rallycross legal with my group (needs the hardtop). Several of the guys run those BFG tires, though they are probably not optimal due to the weight.
Why do i want to make sweet lovin to it.

The PO replaced the timing belt, water pump, front crankshaft and camshaft seals, CAS seal, and all hoses about 10k ago.

I think the new owner should take it a step further with brush guard and running lights. How about this photoshop by Rob?!

Just needs a lsx and the tire weight won't matter.
The paint issues are not apparent in the pictures. Can you explain a bit more about that?

It is 24 year old single stage paint that has been driven regularly so it has lots of scratches and chips. The two worst spots are the passenger quarter and the drivers side bumper cover (both of which are in the pics). No dents or dings of significance though. I would describe it as currently "15 ft". If I was going to restore it I would give it a paint job. Since I found an even better condition BRG to restore this car became the tribute rally car.
As said above this would be a great car for someone to drive as-is or take it further with more off-road stuff/capabilities. If someone wants it to restore to original then be aware that most people would want it repainted so would be a better fit financially for someone that is capable of doing their own paint work.
The comments on The Truth About Cars had me dying.

All it really needs for safe trail riding is stiffer front springs (or a massive bump stop), steeper gears in a 1.8 rear such as easily obtainable 4.44 or 4.78 and a 1.8 clutch. If it doesn’t sell that is exactly what I will do as I have all that sitting on a shelf somewhere in the shop.
some how missed this in the forums but was directed here by bring a trailer
