You'll find the cost of those is many times what it costs to fix the problem.
But it's your car. Have fun.
The v12 runs for now, calm down lol

Can we do an over/under on how long?

LoL sure. Apparently it's been refreshed and bored over and was owned by a British car mechanic. But, I can buy it with or without the v12 engine. We will see though.
I don't have a whole lot of interest in the v12 engine to be honest. I like xjs with lister bodykits lol. And it's red. I would love to do a single turbo 2jzgte with an auto and gobs of power.
In reply to yupididit :
How much is he asking for the engine? I have a 5.3 LS with a trans that needs a rebuild. Maybe we can work something out.
In reply to Pattyo :
Not sure but when I finalize the deal and get the car to Texas I'll hit you up.

Actually Yes. Jaguars aren't for everyone. It's a heavy car. With a 2:88 final drive ratio which may work at Bonneville but almost no place else. Even with a legitimate 400+ horsepower engine it won't seem quick.
part of it is elegance and a swaped engine denies that elegance.
Then there was the whole labor issue during that period. Labor actually tried to sabatoge the company. Only loosely connecting some wiring causing all sorts of reliability issues.
Finally there was the poor HVAC system. That ancient designed York compressor. It blocked airflow to the top of the engine which caused the fuel lines to be A/C cooled. Replace it with a little Sanyo on the side and the fuel lines overheating goes away. The stupid bus sized alternator. Etc.
In reply to frenchyd :
Where do you get this "legitimate 400+ horsepower" number? Mguar only had 300 hp right? 33% is a big increase without aftermarket heads.
In reply to frenchyd :
Mercedes was using 2.82 in their AMG's and moved out plenty damn fast at 4000+ lbs. But okay so you're saying I need 500hp. Very doable!
Rear end ratios are meaningless without knowing the gearing of the rest of the transmission or the tire diameter.
I disagree that only Jaguar engines have "elegance". And I got my first speeding ticket in a V12 XJS :)

I want in on this action.

So you're going to put a BBC in the Jaguar?

The Jaguar V12 heads are actually too big for Crisp part throttle response. If you go on the AJ6 Web site and read about the V12 they will warn you about porting the engine. You actually lose power in lower to mid RPM ranges.
Now strictly for racing there is room to enlarge the ports significantly. Jaguar has 2 different foundries cast their heads and one has slightly thicker walls than the other.
The later HE heads are not optimum for flow. Completely ported you are limited to about 400-450 horsepower no matter what you do. While the earlier 1971-1980 heads allow 750+ horsepower.
If you don't want to Rev the poop out iof the engine making it bigger will add power from idle up.
The factory increased the stroke from 2&3/4 to 3 niches and with only a 17% increase picked up 34 % more torque and horsepower. Same ports, same valves etc.
You don't have to buy an expensive 6.0 liter V12 to do that. In fact you can do much better. Using your 5.3. Use Chevy aftermarket 6 inch rods (stock are 5.7 ). Chevy Rods are 2.10. Jaguar journals are 2.30. If you offset grind the crank you'll pick up another .400 + or minus the skill of your crank grinder.
Now you'll be at about 380 cu in. But the cylinder walls of a Jaguar will really take a big bore. Some guys in Australia use Chevy 3&3/4 pistons but that gets real expensive. You need to bore the block and make custom sleeves. You can safely take the stock bore out to 3&5/8 and maybe 3 & 9/16
Since the Iron sleeve presses out of the aluminum block it's pretty easy to do. Just chuck the sleeve into a lathe and bore it to whatever size you want. Repeat 11 more times.
You can get a V12 to 7 & 1/2 liters without a lot of expense or effort 9 liters has been done.
In reply to frenchyd :
If you're going to put all those Chevy parts in there why not just put them in a Chevy block like they were intended in the first place?
In reply to Stampie (FS) :
What 12 connecting rods? It's just cheaper to buy high volume aftermarket stuff than having 12 rods custom made. Since the stock Chevy rods won't hold up for high revs or horsepower numbers. Anyone who races a Chevy knows better than trust the stock rods. So they are about the most common aftermarket rod out there.

AMG is the tuner version of the Benz, right?
TWR & Lister were the tuner version of Jaguar and those are very brisk cars indeed.

No this was after Mercedes and AMG merged. Even their non-AMG but decently powered cars too.

Lol.
In a very real sense Ferrari took over Jaguar's domination of LeMans and following Ferrari. There was Ford. And following Ford there was Porsche. And eventually it came back to Jaguar briefly.

I just don't know TWR. And Listers well enough to know who, how much, and when. I think TWR was late 80's. And Lister was mid to late 90's. I do know the V12 went on to win one more time at LeMans for a total of 7
While TWR won European Class A against primarily BMW COMPETITION. A few times but never LeMans.
