As the title states, looking for a generation 2.5 98-00 Mitsubishi Montero full size suv. It seems hard to search for these as I don't think they sold well opposed to the Montero sport models from that era. I don't want a sport. Completely different vehicle. If you know of a nice one or see one for sale please let me know.
Thanks,
Chris

Not really anywhere near you, but most likely rust-free:

I want to live in Seattle. We visited there in 2001, and I didn't want to go home. I would totally fly and drive.

Would you detour to Eugene Oregon and tow a car back to Ohio on your way?
Ahh crap...knew I saw one on CL the other day, but it's an 01. Here it is anyways

If you get one be sure to post updates on it. These, and the following generation of Monte's are kind of on my radar screen.
SWMBO wants a fancy SUV (read Range Rover), but I haven't got the guts to own a Rover out of warranty, and lack the bucks to own one in warranty. These seem like a lot bang for the SUV buck on the used market.
Mitsu doesn't give the warm fuzzy feeling either, but I understand that these aren't built at all like the crappy Mitsu cars that I'm familiar with..... If someone knows better, please correct me.

You can't afford Seattle.

How do you know?
Cause I lived there and cost of living had increased 75% over the past 5 years and it's not slowing down.

But how do you know I can't afford it?
I worked for a Mitsubishi dealership back in 2001-2002. We sold a ton of Monterey Sports new and used but only a couple of the "regular" Montero. I absolutely loved the 1998 Montero we had on the lot. Would have bought it myself but the gas mileage was awful. Decided to make the logical decision and buy the Civic VX we took in on trade. Drove that Civic for 8 long years and was happy to be rid of it.
The Montero though - wish I had it now.
Looked just like this one.

Cause no one can right now unless both people work and have tech jobs or you could get a 1.5 hour commute.
I wasn't making a statement about you. It was more of a general statement. If you want prices larger than bostons with worse commutes. Please move there.
Back on topic:How about a gen 3?
$4900 firm seems a bit high to me, maybe that's why the other buyer backed out?

I had one just like that. Loved it until it started to break weird. There was a little button on the dash that I think belonged to an unknown aftermarket alarm system which had to be pushed in order to start. It broke and I asked the shop to try to bypass it. The Montero then became possessed and the door locks would click up and down at random times or when I squirted the windshield washer fluid. Calmed down eventually when it became our extra vehicle. I would drive it once a week to keep it fresh. It never left us stranded (not counting dead batteries) except for when the throttle cable broke. Unobtainium on the Internet. Found one in a junk yard 75 miles away. Had plans to convert to more of an off vehicle but never did. Sold it to a coworker's daughter. Miss it every time I see one drive by.

I'd move there in a second if my family weren't all based here. Aside from Seahawks fans(front-runners of the highest order) I love everything about the place. I was looking at living more in the Tacoma area where my wife's cousin lived. This was 15 years ago however. Traffic seems to suck no matter where you live so I'm sure there is no escaping it. Cape Cod in the summer, and Boston no matter what time of the year along with the whole north east 95 corridor really sucks to drive in. I sure would like less road salt, and snow. Also cars that don't turn to dust in 5 years. I don't imagine everyone drives an F-150, Subaru wagon, or beige Camry there either.
Bump, to see if anyone has seen any of these for sale.
