...but I was thrilled to see Mr Joshua bring one to the Challenge (I helped him unload), and I can't wait for him (or someone else) to bring one back. 

I wonder if we can find enough of them for a new spec series.

Nothing seems to have a price listed. Maybe you need an account to see prices or something? I did see on barnfinds that a couple years ago someone sold a 72V converted model. The Comuta-car version with batteries in the fron bumper looks to help get space for that.

If someone doesn't turn one of these into a LMP360 clone but looking like an enclosed McLaren M8D, Chaparral 2J or Dome RL this is a horrible missed opportunity.

Gather they're 8 6v batteries in series for 48v based on the white one above. Can you run 8 12v batteries wired as 2 separate banks of 48v (4 each bank) in parallel? Would that give any benefit if so besides more affordable batteries?

The original speed control was just a 3 speed switching between 12v 24v and 48v.  I'll be looking at a modern infinitely variable speed control you know like a gas pedal.  I'd convert to a modern 48v battery.
