I just know my M's, which are bigger than the earlier cars, weren't easy to get into even without a roll bar or cage. I'd like to vintage race a TVR, but I don't think I want to have to deal with fiberglass damage to unobtainium parts.
The early cars (Mk 1 and 2) had shorter doors, which made it a chore getting in and out. The saying around the factory (a notably rowdy bunch) was that a TVR was like a virgin - hard to get into but comfortable once you were there.
The Mk 3 and later had more generously proportioned doors and I never had any issues getting in and out, and I am a big guy. Other cars like a Europa are notably tighter for access.
As far as racing with fibreglass panels, every sports racer out there does it and if you hits something you just pick up the pieces and stitch them back together again.
Now if you rolled a TVR that could be pretty costly.
BTW, they weighed in at around 1700 lbs. race weight. The Elvas were as light as 1400 lbs. Had my MGA race car down to 1750 one time. Not saying how.....

Wow. I've been on that site a million times, but never knew that the complete list existed in that format.
This is one I thought might fit Bravenrace's criteria well... http://www.race-cars.com/carsales/triumph/1414593291/1414593291ss.htm
Thanks for the leads. Just to clarify, I don't really need to buy a car until next year. For that reason I'm currently only going to consider cars that are closer to home, say within a 4 hour drive. Later in the year that may change if I haven't found anything. I also am only interested in turn key race cars, no projects.
Thanks again, guys, and please keep posting leads.
Some serious money being asked for used up old cars! Anyone who has bought "used" race stuff will know why am a cynic; kinda like getting a mail order whore when you wanted a bride.

Yea but that whore costs half as much as the bride. I've always been of the impression that you can rarely build a race car for what it costs to buy a used one, including updates you may need to do to the car.
I have to agree with NOHOME that some advertised on that list are asking very serious money.... But I would suspect/hope that there is also some bargaining room built into the pricing.
The advantage here is we're trying to spend Bravenrace's hard earned dollars so it doesn't hurt us as much...
If your willing to go BMW 2002, I got something for you out the door for 10K. I've been slowly converting a flared fendered BMW 2002 that was predominantly an autocross car into a vintage racer. Not completely finished, but close. Spares that come with this car alone are an easy sell off for 5 grand or more. Package includes 3 limited slips, twin 45 DCOE Webers, twin 40 DHLA Dellortos, close ratio 5 speed transmission, OD 5 speed transmission, 4 speed transmission, spare subframes, driveshafts, engine, engine parts, flywheels, brake components..... Car itself has fiberglass fenders, hood, trunk. Lexan side and rear window, glass windshield with spare ones. Full cage, Simpson seat, Wink mirror, VDO gauges, window net, used uninstalled Accusump, oil cooler, Carrera coilovers, fuel cell.... I don't want to get into a long description here, but the car is easily 15K or more. Needs to be finished and I'm loosing interest. Car is located in central Mass just above Worcester. I stored it there for the winter because my garage was full. If your interested, send me your email and I can send over some of the pictures I have stored on my computer. This site won't allow me to post them unless they come from a photobucket account or something similar. Just noticed there are 5 pics of it in the my garage section of my profile.

NE Ohio? That's 4 hours from Ann Arbor.

Make me an offer I can't refuse.

My budget? I honestly don't know. I guess it depends on the car and how much more money needs to be put into it and how expensive it is to run. I like your car, but know nothing about them. I also need a turnkey car, especially for the price range your's is in (an agreement I made with my wife). I know you say it only needs a clutch, but in my world, right now, that's a bigger deal than it would appear to be.
Another one offered by Automotive Restorations, Inc. in Stratford, CT:

I went to their web site but didn't find a picture of this car, but here's a generic picture:

Turners are great sports cars, and make great vintage race cars, especially the early ones like this with a BMC A-Series engine.

I keep clicking this thread expecting to see pics of your new vintage race car. Quit piddling about.

Seriously.
You could have driven to Connecticut and back several hundred times by now.
