Our next project on our Sprite’s interior was to deal with the shift boot. Putting a five-speed in place of the original four-speed caused a problem: The hole in the metal hump that surrounds the shifter simply didn’t allow enough room to move the lever into fifth.

I have been using a generic Dorman CV joint boot from Advance Auto for years!

I went the other direction and cut a section out of the metal piece to lower the top. The hole and boot are the stock, I was able to move the the boot closer to the pivot point of the shifter. I took about an inch out of it IIRC.
