Race driver Art Riley passed away peacefully at his home on Long Island yesterday at the age of 93.

I don't know if Art is remembered outside of Volvo circles, but he was well-known in the '50s and '60s for his successful PV444, 544 and P1800 exploits. He was one of the first Volvo dealers in the U.S., and raced very lightly modified cars as a way to advertise the marque, often driving his race car many states away to compete for the weekend.

Art was also known for endurance rallies, often partnering with Walter Cronkite. He was a gentleman who was always glad to give "the kids" driving instruction and help less experienced drivers out however he could.

Art will be missed.
