Thanx, Mr. Flashyfingers ....

I am taking a break from flying for a bit, knew I was never quitting but need a break.  (long stupid story) .  I do not own a glider as I can fly a club glider at any time.  So, why am I even thinking about this?  You know me....

Stopped and saw my friend John today, he's the guy with the dead 911 in a lean to, he also owns about 12 sailplanes; some up & running, others are "work in progress.  On of his works in progress jobs is a Lark.  It's a Romanian build aluminum two seater with flaps, a lot of ships have no flaps.  It's a pretty big piece of gear so you don't want to "land out" which is to not make it back to the airport, easy enough as most of my flights are short and local.

I can probably buy this for less than the cost of a set of tires.  Here's the paint question:  It needs paint, gliders are done with poly paint, white to reflect heat.  I can do that  - - on the top surfaces.  On the bottom surfaces I would like to paint it up like a red tail hawk, A HUGE ONE !  Maybe a head & beak at the front.     No, I don't have fantasies about buzzing a field of 8 year olds or anything, but if ya got to paint, lets paint it up.

How do you start?  Who do you go to?  I can't afford Foose and I don't know any air brushers.  Thoughts?

Dan

I'm going to assume you don't want to freehand this.

Most of what I would do would involve a vinyl cutter and breaking the whole thing into layers. Light/base coat first, then darker colors, black last.

They wrap city buses  with advertising, why not 55ft. wings?

As long as the weight increase is manageable, I say go for it.  Laying them to line up might be rough.  I know VERY little about aircraft.

Have a vinyl shop lay it out and print it on vinyl.  Let a pro apply.  Won't add much weight.  Will last for years because its always in the shade.

Ditto, the vinyls now have excellent color and durability.
