Just had a friend send me this video of a 1000hp awd subaru with chain driven front axle.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLfkcm-0EA0

To keep the engine back and f/r weight better balanced they used a R35 GTR transaxle in the rear. Then from the best i can tell they have the front diff still mounted behind the already moved back engine. Then they have drag bike chains going from the front diff up to the actual cv axles. I've made a crude drawing so that I could understand it better in my head on what was going on.

Figured if anybody could appreciate this ingenuity it'd be you guys. Also would be pretty cool to see done on a budget for Challenge money. I know someone on here made an ice racer that was AWD chain driven front and rear off of a bike engine mounted in the passenger compartment.

From the description that sounds like it is a lot heavier and more complicated that it needs to be.

I bet for the same total weight they could have just put some ballast in the trunk and called it a night.

But that's a gut reaction based on 50 words and a diagram.

the video describes it better then I can. I think part of moving to the GTR trans was power limitations of the subaru trans

Why not use the rest of the GTR drivetrain? I'm confused about the reasons for this.

Sounds like most of the power is directed at the rear most of the time. Chains are designed for 5oohp I guess.

Interesting design, VERY complicated.

In reply to z31maniac :

Flat 6 didnt fit above the front diff wo/ throwing off the COG was his reason.

It seems like he would've been better off just starting with a different car. I don't trust a 1000 hp Subaru.
