I really enjoyed my mom's Veloster, they bought one of the first Turbos available in NC and although it was an automatic it still felt sporty. Theirs was loaded with every option and came in right around 27k. She sold it after just a year for something larger ('12 X3) but had no complaints about the car.

I love it. I like the orange ones, too. But blue with red seats is, IMO, fantastic. And I only have one kid to load up, so the three door is perfect. Would I regret getting rid of my little turbo MINI to get one, though? I wonder.

What does it do that a Cobalt SS didn't do 5 years ago?
It fails to wear a bowtie.

R-Spec's didn't have cruise in the past. I have no idea what the Veloster is going to have because the press release says it won't but your pic shows it having the buttons, so WTF knows? I just thought it was cool they did it back in the first ones. Hyundai and Porsche were the only 2 companies offering a steering wheel without buttons. How odd is that?

I have red seats in my blue BMW.......it actually doesn't look bad either.
Seriously now, blue with red is a sports car classic with green/tan!

So, i'm just gonna go ahead and say that this R-spec thing doesn't appeal to me at all. What they added doesn't make up for what they took out. And what they added isn't even all good.
I guess i'm glad the e-diff is still in the regular turbo model because that's the best new thing in the article.
Your Buddy was doing AC work on a car and took a passenger on a diagnostic drive of sufficient duration and aggression for you to form an opinion about vehicle dynamic performance?
You poor, poor fool. EVERY shop has techs like that. Don't like it? Do your own work.
Hell, when i worked as a transmission rebuilder, WOT was part of every test drive. If a transmission/clutch was going to slip, it was your damn job to find out before you let it out the door. Dump truck, corvette, and everything in between.

I know that, but my point was, this isn't a big deal. The Cobalt made more power, had real LSD, no lift shift, and probably a bunch of other stuff this car doesn't have (like warranty approved 300/320 upgrade) 5 years ago, likely for less money.
I expect more, and it offers less.
So I can go buy a new, under warranty Cobalt SS with all that stuff?
No, we can't. Cobalt, while it was a great car, STARTED at $24,095, ($2k more), weighed 3001 lbs (300lbs more) and had a 3/36 warranty. Reality is, the Cobalt has been gone for 4 years. They're not making them. GM is offering NOTHING in this category. Neither is Dodge. Honda is half-assing it. Toyota gave up on enthusiast cars a decade ago. IS Mitsu even making cars still? Nissan is into making electric cars and convertible SUV's.
Why can'e we be HAPPY that SOMEONE is making a car aimed at the enthusiast crowd?
Jeebus people. Can't you people just be HAPPY about something for once?
If me being happy will make you happy, then I'm not doing it. No way.

shiny happy person. You just made my co-workers look at me like I'm a deranged idiot laughing hysterically.
The Veloster also has a back door and a hatch. If you need a 4 door but hate 4 doors, it sure seems like a workable compromise. Of course, I seem to be in the minority with my sedan-hate.

The biggest problem for the veloster is the simple fact that Ford pulled their heads out of their asses and started bringing us hot hatches for good competitive prices.
I have yet to figure out what hyundai were thinking with the whole "3 full doors" thing.....I'm assuming "3 door hatchback" was lost in translation somewhere.
I have no idea. I'm just glad that soon we'll be able to get that same drivetrain in a 4door hatch (Forte5 SX) with a 100lb weight penalty over teh Turbo Veloster.

They should refine what they have out there first.

It's because 5 door hatches are lame, but people convinced themselves that they can't have a 3-door hatch because they "NEED" the extra doors for "practicality".
This gives you a proper 3 door hatch on the driver's side, with a 5 door hatch on the side you don't have to look at.

In my case it is a 4 door mandatory requirement. I make a living doing transportation. Try getting a guy who is 6'6", 400lbs and has a cronic back injury into the back seat of anything other than a sedan.
However my Elantra carries these guys with comfort, including one client who is 6"8", 500lbs and has serious heart problems. Of course watching him get into the car is still quite... interesting.
If the Elantra Type R gets approved, I will pick one up immediately.
