Hey folks,
It baffles me that I cannot find an answer to this question...It's only like one of the most-produced trucks (and therefore has probably the most probability of needing a window replaced)...but I've done the google thing and now I'm going to ask here where I know I'll get the answer
I need to replace the door window glass (the main roll-up-and-down window) in my '92 F150.
Do I need to remove the wing window? Then what? Looks like maybe I need to roll the window all the way down to get the regulator out of its track (not sure though).
Probably like most cars/trucks, pull the door card and vapor barrier, remove the two bolts holding the glass to the regulator, slide the window up (pop it out of its tracks) and out.
You're likely struggling to find a write up because nobody has any problems just winging it.
Yeah...uh...no.
I've had two trucks apart and am now looking for help from someone who has done it. Knowing this crowd, I'll probably get the help. If not...well, I'll just figure it out. ("winging it"..."breaking it when I should have been patient and asked for help"...call it what you will).
For the record...I'm not really a fan of posts saying "I haven't done it but it's probably so simple you should have already figured it out."
You can take the wing window out but its easier to remove the lower rear track once you have the door panel off. Its an 11mm bolt then yank down on the rear guide and it'll come loose.
The real challenge is getting the glass secured into the sash bar that slips onto the wheel of the regulator arm. Either use cork packing tape and be gentle or urethane the glass into it and don't roll it down for a couple days.
^^^what he said. removing the lower rear track is the key. then you can angle the window and kind of 'roll' it out the top. removing the outer dew strip helps too, but be aware that you will have bare metal edge there. bare metal edges like slicing fingers, ruining tint, and killing puppies. go slow.

Thanks folks!
When you say the lower rear track...I want to make sure I know what you mean. You mean the vertical rubber/felt channel that the window rolls up and down in?
I do see where that bolts in to the inner sheet metal panel of the door. Unbolt it and pull down, eh?
Thanks again,
Clem
In reply to ClemSparks:
Yeah, might have to wiggle it a bit but it'll come off.
And are you also saying that I need to remove the horizontal sash metal from the window glass at some point?
Thanks again
For future reference, the trick is to roll the window regulator about half-way down (this is the point where the square slider block on the lifting arm is as far to the rear of the door as it gets). Remove the rear lower channel attachment from the inner door sheetmetal as mentioned above. Now you can get the window in, slide it forward enough to put the square slider in the window sash channel (the metal channel attached to the bottom of the window glass), then slide the window back and line it up in the channels.
The window I was trying to harvest was in a truck in the field and the power window motor was bound up (in the rolled-up position). I ended up with a $50 junkyard window.
Thanks,
Clem
