Hello all,

Co-worker's parents have this Miata. They need a bigger vehicle, etc. I tried to convince him to take it off their hands as a daily several months ago. If I didn't have the project MR2, I'd jump on it.

This AM, he asks me what do WE, the GRM community think it's worth. We're both in the Auto industry and know what the wholesale-auction price is, etc.

1995 Miata, 70K, One owner, all records, and service history. Don't know what color, etc.

I asked him to send me pics and specs and I'd help him sell it.

What's it worth GRM?

Let's just say I have $564...cash. Limited time offer, I may spend it on something else soon, so act fast.

Without knowing what the specs are, it's anybody's guess. 70k isn't exactly low mileage anymore, but not high mileage either. If it's a base model in good shape, someone might give them $3k-$4k for it. If it's a '95 M-Edition in pristine shape with a hardtop, I can see someone pay $6k-$7k for it depending on how nice it is, but keep in mind my perception is coloured by the prices these tend to go for out here.

One with crappy paint and torn seats is going to be worth 1500 bucks on a good day, no matter what the mileage is.

It's fall, if it's perfect, 4000$ all downhill from there. Cut $800 off for AT, add $500 for hardtop (sell separate)

BTW...

It's in ATLANTA.

That raises the price another $1K, right?

I'll get the VIN and pics soon.

Would need to know more about condition and options. Hardtop and Torsen are the two really important options.

Average condition base model car maybe $3000 max. Excellent condition with Torsen and Hardtop maybe up to $6000.

As has been said earlier an auto would be worth much less.

Hey folks, the car is red with tan leather interior, manual, one owner, new tires, new brakes, new soft top. Atlanta bought and driven. Thoughts?

Which red? Dark red metallic or the solid bright, common red? Seats with separate headrests or integrated headrests?

New brakes isn't going to make a big difference on a Miata, it's not like they cost actual amounts of money to service.

New soft top could actually bring the value down, too. The crappy vinyl top/vinyl window units aren't exactly a step over no top at all...

The common bright red, integrated headrests w stock speakers. The top was a replacement of the OEM top...the plastic window cracked and split after 15 years. This is Atlanta, so convertible top is never used if you have one. Weather is awesome 10 moths / year. Brakes were replaced not serviced.

IIRC - The leather seats means it also has a Torsen LSD. Doesn't mean much to the average driver, but important around here. In Michigan, if its in perfect condition, that would go for as much as 5K in the spring, about $3.5K in the fall.

Don't let them look at the crackhead prices some have been listed here for though....

Ok, I'll offer them 500.00 over trade-in and offer them rides at the local events.

Thanks..

I just sold my 1996 m-edition with 85,000 miles for $5000. No hardtop, not perfect paint, but clean. Tires were shot. Sold it five days after posting on cl. Probably could have gotten more, but buyer had cash and I needed the money.

I'd list this one for $5500 and see what you can get.

70k on an 18 y/o Miata is silly low mileage IMHO.

$5500 or $6k obo sounds like a good start.

Sounds like a $4000 car to me, but with that age and mileage I would be way more excited if it had a recent timing belt service. Otherwise I'd use that for negotiating and aim for $3500. It's nice but not overly unusual.

I just agreed to pay $4000 for a '99 with 67K on the odometer. Awaiting the title. It was going to be lower, but he figured out what the top was worth, and found receipts for the 60K service, which he wasn't aware of paying for (doesn't drive it much, and his wife had actually taken it in for that service, so he never saw the bill).

I do need to find a PDR guy in the central VA area for 2 dents one large, one small, and there is a small hole in the nose where someone backed into it in the parking lot. Otherwise, looks like a garage kept 67K car.

Around here, that would likely be a 4-5K car at this time of year, 1K more the first beautiful spring day.

Thank for the feedback all. If you know an interested party, please have them call me 404-518-2445. Maybe Grassroots needs a project car as mentioned earlier in the feed?

Go to Miata.net and look at the pricing discussion forum. As noted, the prices are weather and location dependent.
