There is a selection of older Subaru's at the local pick n pull. My fiancee has a 1998 Subaru Impreza Sport and I am looking to get familiarized with the car. What parts are interchangeable between older Subaru's? Her car has 170,000 miles on it, what should I replace that is not a normal wear and tear item?

The fan for her AC/heater needs to be replaced, is this the same as on other Subie's? Her car has the 2.2 if that helps.

Her car is an auto.

Here is the list from their website about what they currently have...

The Legacy has slightly larger front brakes that bolt on. Rear discs can also be adapted but I don't feel they are worth the effort.

WRX sway bars should bolt right in. 1st gen Forester parts also swap around; it's basically the same car just taller.

You can use the parts catalog to compare part numbers and see what is a direct replacement: Subaru online parts catalog

Seats are interchangeable. 2002+ wrx seats bolt in, but you have to retain the seat belt(it swaps over). 2002+ seats tend to be a little taller, so not a wise swap for a tall person. Rears swap in with slight modification(impreza).

Door and window switches do NOT interchange, they look the same but pins in the connector wire up differently. Dashes can swap with slight modification. Radios interchange. The new impreza's have a double din unit that should mount just fine, it has a 5 disc cd changer built in.

I read somewhere that the first gen Forester rear mount bushing for the front control arm/transverse link is basically a poor man's anti-lift kit.

Thanks guys I'll see what I can do! The brakes are a tempting upgrade since they need replacement anyway!

You'll need to log in to post.
