Just like the title says...........American Suzuki, the auto division is leaving the US market. Pretty sad.

IMO, there may be a few more that will soon follow. Mitsubishi comes to mind.
Not too surprising. The local Suzuki deal went belly up a few months ago. Is Mitsubishi even still alive? They closed both of the local dealers there too.
I never understood why suzuki didn't bring the latest swifts over. They were nice cars.
I loved my Suzuki Sidekick JX. Great little trucklet, perfect first new car after college, took me skiing and to the beach and on and on. When I had a kid, I wanted a center position for the car seat, so I moved to a Jeep GC in 1999. I always liked the idea of adding a Suzuki as a 2nd car, but everytime I looked, they were still offering the same basic thing. As Hyundai offered medium-sized SUVs and the Ford Escape was selling like hotcakes, Suzuki soldiered on with the same basic vehicle.
The Kisashi was a great car, but I needed either more room in the form of a wagon for the family, or more power for a sports sedan. The little Suzuki SX4 was appealing, but just too small for a family.
So I am not surprised that they are going under. I was a more than willing to shop Suzuki, but they just didn't have a product for me.
Suzuki wasn't even know as a car manufacturer to many Americans. A friend of my MIL who is 80+ bought a Kisashi, told her kids and grandkids that she had bought a Suzuki (but not the model) and they tried to have her put in a home. She let them panic for a week before texting pics One child said that she must have rebadged some other car.
Too bad, I drove a Kizashi SE about a month ago and thought it was actually a pretty fun little car, and with AWD for just over $20k, I think. It did feel heavy though. Much heavier than I thought a car its size should feel. But still...good ride, decent steering and brakes, interior was pretty good, and it had like 180hp and moved pretty well.
One of my buddies is building a J24 from a Kizashi. it's a VERY stout, and well built motor.
I'm glad I didn't purchase a new SX4 and got screwed on warranty but then again parts availability for suzuki cars is tough with a limited dealer network.
Stronger yen, sluggish economy = bad for Japanese exporters. Japanese companies which build most U.S. market vehicles in the U.S., not so much. This is why nations around the world, including the U.S., are trying to devalue their currencies. Beggar-thy-neighbor as policy.
