That's awesome! I'd love to have one of those.

It's really too bad they didn't put the Allison trans in the Burb like they did in the big block pickups. The 4L80E is plenty strong, but the Allison has better ratios.

The 8.1 is a 496, so almost 500.

No overworked V6 in my truck.

12,500 lbs with a F250HD, 460, E40D and a 4:10 Sterling.

Camper in the box, horse trailer behind and I still pass folks going up hills.

That 'burb is a great tow rig though, you'll love it.

Only if you love the sound of detonation.... I'll take the $ hit with diesel.

So do these motors need higher octane? I never even thought to consider that.

So you guys remember how I said it was 2wd because that is what the dealer (small time) told me. When I test drove yesterday morning, I only had 20 minutes or so. Coming home after picking it up, I look down and see the auto 4wd button and go what the berkeley! I then proceeded to giggle like a little girl for 5 minutes.

Gave the Pig a tune up today and Mrs. Slammer started cleaning all the dog hair and nicotine residue out of the interior. Hitting on all 8 GIANT pistons makes this thing quite a bit livelier. Ran a Comp test too! 159-174. Not bad for 233K miles.

The guy I work for is a GM Master Tech, I picked his brain about your truck.

Apparently it's pretty much a rock-solid truck.

He said the engines are known to burn a bit of oil but apart from that you shouldn't have problems.

The towing ability of the newer stuff is pretty amazing. I rode with my buddy in his 2011, 5.0, extended cab, 6ft bed, 4x4 f150 and was SHOCKED at how well it handled a load. I mean it was towing almost as well as my old modified 95 diesel dually and that thing dynoed at over 700 ft lbs of TQ. Now he was revving the piss out of it, but still. Of course my truck was 5k and his was 40, but damn can the new stuff tow well. I haven't ridden in a new 1ton, but I imagine they are pretty amazing.

Not to mention the new fords actually have a stability control system designed to work with towing a trailer. I suspect the difference between new and old actually grows the farther out of shape you are with it. And that's a good thing when you're driving around with enough kinetic energy to kill a line of pedestrians about 250 feet deep.
