For no reason at all?
The dealership I work at just got a 2014 Ford Fusion with a 1.6L Ecoboost and 6-speed manual! I had no clue they even existed. It isn't fast, it isn't particularly engaging to drive, but I would love to have one as a daily. The dealership also has many awesome cars, such as a 911 GT3, numerous AMG cars, and a few Bentleys, so I'm not sheltered from "nice" cars.
Am I just weird or do other people feel the same way?

For sure. After every car purchase my mother says, "can't you just buy a normal car?". Negative.
Nah, not me. I like all normal cars.

Which is mainstream relative to the Delica!
I've always gravitated to less common, quirky cars as well.
Pintos count? What about elcaminos and rancheros?
1996: "In 20 years, Ford's midsize car will be available with a 1.6l four cylinder."
Uh-huh.
"The car that replaces the Escort will be available with a 345hp turbo engine and all wheel drive."
Uh-huh.
"This will come the year after Mitsubishi stops selling the Lancer Evolution, and a few years after the Subaru WRX/STI have lost sales due to being too upmarket."
Okay, now you're just E36 M3ting me.
"A new F-150 will be all aluminum and a 2.7l six making 325hp is one of the lower end engine options."
You can stop now, nobody's going to believe you.
lets see.. I have a 77 Fiat spider and an 87 Saab Turbo S in the garage.. and I daily a Disco.. nope, no "normal" cars here.. my last car was as normal as I get, a Volvo 850.. with a five speed!
I seem to seek out the odd models or orphans myself! Gremlin, Pinto, Escort EXP, Bugeye Sprite, 91 Capri XR2, Miata with automatic, 65 Crewcab Mercury truck, VW bug with a flatbed, Hondamatic motorcycle...odd stuff, ya know!
Even my normal cars all seem to have a quirk. I like Escorts, but my DD is a hard to find Pony model that is a stripped car with factory quirks for MPGs. My early midlife crisis car was a 5.0 Mustang convertible, but I ended up with a 84 Turbo GT convertible because it was different!
My Thunderbirds are Turbo coupes, my Crown vics are P71s!
Maybe I have a strong desire to be different. I recall that when everyone was a Bugs Bunny fan I loved Taz. Then Taz got hot so I switched to Marvin the Martian.
I also have a thing for 4 doors and station wagons, abnormal right?
If anyone runs across a 1991-96 Escort wagon in Dusky Rose (pink) give me a call! 5 speed a plus.

I love my oddball cars. One of my favorite purchases was my 1993 Subaru Loyale 4WD station wagon. It was slow (only 85hp and no overdrive), rusty and had no heat but with it in 4WD, 3.90 gears and Blizzaks on all 4 corners, it was unstoppable. Nobody ever knew what it was. I can't count how many times I heard "Hey, look at that old Volvo."

My first car was a 5 speed 850
I like station wagons, in this day and age that makes me weird. I also prefer everything i own to be old enough and still equipped with a carb!
Isn't this forum built around this concept?
How do you think Subaru survived this long?
Opel Rallye Kadetts, VW Thing, Saab 96s, Saab Monte Carlo, Opel S/W (Yes, the one C&D wanted to crush after the road test), Saab 99s, 626 w/5spd, Malibu Squad car, lots of Pintos, lots of 80s Subarus, Toyota Echo. These are some of the stand outs I still remember. I just like unusual cars/cars that NORMAL people shun. Been a long strange trip. FUN!!

Wow that's cool
I've wanted a 310 GX in that color since they were new! They have great tail lights

i like quirky cars. But isn't it interesting seeing a car that used to be super common, all the sudden is a rare sight to see/and or quirky? Case in point I daily one of two Volvo 240s, when I was a kid there were 240s EVERYWHERE now? I will see maybe 3 redblock cars a month.
I've also been asked "why can't you buy a normal car?" Cause Miatas and clacky old cars without Ac are more interesting to me.

It started out mainstream enough, with a 1977 Ford LTD, then a '74 Chevy Nova with the 250 inline 6 and Powerglide. THEN,
1980 Rabbit, formerly a diesel;
1980 Vanagon,
1983 Plymouth Colt Twin Stick with the E36 M3-subishi "MCA-Jet" engine;
1986 VW GTI;
1986 Saab 900, base trim 5-speed;
1995 Saab 900S 5-speed;
2000 VW Golf 5-speed;
1988 Volvo 740 Turbo 4-speed with Laycock de Normanville electric OD.
Married. Wife had a 2002 Mazda Protege 5-speed;
2003 VW Passat V6 5-speed; 1988 Dodge Dakota crap hauler;
1999 Volvo V70XC (wife's first auto);
1972 MG "Little Person," (my current daily May through November);
1988 Mercedes-Benz 300SE (my daily when the MG won't do);
2011 Ford Flex (wife's bitchin' Ford Country Sedan).
Considering Fiat Abarth when the Mercedes is all used up.

Like the Beetle. I don't see two a month.
I want a Daimler SP 250.
I'm worried that I buy cars that are too normal; Miatas are practically a regular person car. I feel like I need to start collecting obscure European mopeds to compensate.
In reply to ssswitch:
BiTurbo. You'll never see another one on the road.
Actually, there's a dude with a BiTurbo parked in his front yard on my way to the vet's.
...so yeah I'll never see another one on the road. I wonder if I can fit an LQ4 into it.
