Hey guys, have any of your fiddled around with stuff like this? Seems like an easy and relatively affordable way to get tunable EFI on cars that otherwise have crappy intake systems.

Holley Sniper, FiTech, MSD Atomic TBI systems have been around for a few years now for. I installed the FiTech system on my 1969 Cougar last summer and have been happy with it. It replaced a failed Edelbrock carb.

Have a FITECH on the shelf for the Molvo.
Tons of reviews on FB pages.
Interesting FITECH survey a year ago went like (sorta)
75% happy right out of the box after install
15% happy after they found the vacuum leak or ground issue they messed up
7% happy after tech support with or without replacing defective stuff
3% gave up and tossed it.
The systems wont tolerate bad grounds or air leaks that mess with the O2 sensor.
I have been looking at them for a few years since the prices dropped into the thousand dollar range.
Engine masters episode found that they couldn't get it to work properly on a dual plane intake. That's also been reported in some of the various forums.

I've found similar info about FiTech's LS system when I bought it. I have heard FiTech does have pretty terrible customer support but I found a FB group that could give you all the support you'd ever need. I'm sure there's a group for there TBI system.
At the cruise-in this past weekend, I was chatting with a guy who had installed the Holley system on a 1960-something VW Beetle. With a turbo. He hadn't quite gotten it where he wanted it, but he had nothing but good things to say about Holley's customer service.
Isn't that what Teh Mag installed on the Ramp Truck?

I don't remember if i've seen that episode, but if the Map sensor is mounted on the TBI and ends up reading only half the cyls it may have inadequate software filtering for the 'noise' of the uneven cylinder spacing and give you some funny side effects. I think most of these things also have their injectors pointing directly at what would be the divider wall in a dual-plane intake.
As I stated above, I ave had a FiTech 600hp system installed since July 2017. I had the following issues:
1) an installation error that let the fuel pump wire touch a header, melting the jacket and popping the fuse.
2) an incorrect fuel pump recommended by Summit (non-PWM capable) and fully refunded when it failed
3) EMI/RFI noise that caused my tach signal to be lost, shutting down the car. Shielded the wire to the MSD 6A box and fixed that issue
4) EMI/RFI noise/current when my air cleaner contacted my MSD distributor coil connection which caused the TBI to shut down. Disconnected battery for a bit, replaced big honkin' air cleaner with a smaller device and car has run without a problem ever since.
My experience with FiTech support call-in was great. They answered calls immediately or within a few minutes on hold. Helped with diagnoses and possible solutions. Nothing but high praise from my direct experience.
The Sniper was not yet available when I bought the FiTech. The MSD Atomic required a separate ECU box and only offered a monocolor hand held so I ruled it out.
I have a dual plane intake on my 351 Cleveland and have put better than 2000 miles on the car since I installed the FiTech. Would a single plane work better, dunno. I saw the intake configuration discussions but wasn't ready to replace the existing Edelbrock aluminum intake I already had for one that *might* work better. I did also install a phenolic spacer on the intake to help alleviate what I thought was a temperature problem when the fuel pump was failing. In my case it made little if any difference.

I have a Holley sniper installed on my 75 Chevy k10. Initial config has gone very smooth. I plan to put a few hundred miles on it this month, so will be able to report back, but so far no issues. I also bought a new tank with an in tank walbro pump.
I have an older Holley Stealth Ram system on my 55 wagon and holley’s support has always been excellent.
Can these be set up with cruise control?
I've been wanting to try two EFI units on my dual quad 392 Hemi.... but until I get the trans in and some steering in to it.
Cool. It sounds like these are pretty good systems. I am thinking of doing one of these as a super stealth upgrade on a tbi gen three Camaro.
TBI sucks, there is a reason none of the OEMs uses it any longer.
Port injection is way way more efficient.
If there is OEM port injection hardware you can use with a MegaSquirt, you will have a much better system than a TBI unit.

The big problem with that is that factory intake manifolds are pretty limiting in a lot of cases. You can modify intake runners and plenums and add injector bosses and wire megasquirts etc, but the people that can do that are not the people buying the aftermarket systems in most cases. I think TBI is a huge upgrade over carb in many ways and in terms of reliability and drivability there are probably a lot of cases where one of these TBI kits slapped onto a stock carb manifold is going to have less issues and better drivability than the DIY home-rigged multiport MS setup that's never really 'done'. To each their own.
