As mentioned in a previous thread, I need a gas tank for a late E30. My fuel pump is also a little weak, so I should really change that too while I'm there. Anyway, upon searching their website, the Pull-A-Part recently got an '88 E30 in. I know a lot of yards puncture the gas tanks, but these have convenient drain plugs, so hopefully it has been spared. Anyway, if anyone is going there anytime soon, can you look to see if the gas tank is there and not punctured, and if the fuel pump is still in it? I'll make the trip and pull it myself, I just don't want to drive 2.5 hours if it's already gone.

I haven't been to that one yet, I'll see if I can head up there this weekend. Now it's time to see how many volvos they have on their website.

Pull-A-Part drains gas tanks by punching holes in them. Every damn time. Otherwise I would have offered to snag you one here.

When i've been there they've always punctured them to drain them.

I might be going Sunday myself if there is a suitable AFM donor for my miata on the lot.

I remember you saying that, but was hoping it was just a Louisville thing. I'll probably just bite the bullet and buy a new one, although I was really just looking for justification to play in a new (to me) junkyard while saving a few bucks in the process. I could still use an '88-up fuel pump though, and those bastards are about $200, so it might still be worth a drive if it's still there (still looking for excuses).

I was going to post the car's location in the yard as well, but their website seems to be down right now.

I'm actually work about 30 minutes away from that place. I have had decent luck finding parts there before. I can go after work today or tomorrow and check it out for you. If it's a steel tank couldn't you just weld up the hole they punch in it, if it's not too big?

Hey Guys,

I just recently seen a 1975 Ford LTD displayed on pull-a-part's website in Nashville, Tenn. I have a 74 and I need the rear bumper off that one if its in decent shape. If anyone's heading up that way could you please check and see if the rear bumper is on that one; it's in row 26. I really would appreciate it!

I think its federal law to destroy the gas tanks, just like hacking the catilytic converters off and ruining the whole rest of the exhaust system. Annoying isnt it.

No it's not. I work for a salvage yard, and we sell gas tanks. There is also no law about hacking the crap out of the exhaust system, either. It is law that you can only sell catalytic converters for scrap, to scrap buyers, but they don't specifically say you have to hack the crap out of the exhaust system. The only reason they do it that way is it's faster and easier, especially in a self service yard. With the gas tanks, they want to make sure there are no fluids in the car that some moron can dump onto the ground, causing problems with the EPA.
